The Kraft Celebration Tour is hitting the road for the 5th year in a row! They’re heading to communities throughout Canada to celebrate the excitement and joys of spending time in your community’s parks, playgrounds and nature trails. Kraft knows how important these areas are to fostering community spirit and creating more active lifestyles. Parks have always been an important part of our family’s lifestyle!
As a child, I spent a lot of time exploring my community. I grew up in what was essentially a vacation home development, where at least half the residents only came up on weekends or holidays. I climbed trees, ran through the woods chasing imaginary fairies and created mansions out of tall bushes. On weekends in the summer, I’d take a short ride to the local state park to go bike riding with my aunt or hiking on the trails. To me, the park was a vast wonderland filled with exciting new discoveries.
Exploring parks through the eyes of a child
Now that I have children of my own, I enjoy exploring parks with them. It’s amazing to see things through the eyes of a child again! Too often, when we grow up, we lose that wonder that comes with discovering things for the first time. On a recent trip to Parc Du Mont-Bellevue in the Eastern Townships, Quebec, we had a chance to climb to the top of a mountain, catch awe-inspiring views, then head back down and enjoy a leisurely boat ride. Where else but a beautiful state park can you do all of that in one day?
My son is getting older and will be starting high school next year! Soon, he will have a busy schedule and will be exploring new interests of his own. These family moments in the parks will be even more cherished as my children grow. Right now, he still loves traveling as a family and embarking on our exciting joint adventures.
Look! He’s already taller than me! Kids grow up so fast! Now is the time to make those memories that will last forever! Exploring parks, heading to a playground to play on the swings, or just hiking through a nature trail is a great way to bond as a family. Without the distractions of technology, you can really get to know your kids. Plus, parks offer so many opportunities to stay active.
Nominate your community to be part of the Kraft Celebration Tour
Since it first began, the Kraft Celebration Tour has awarded a whopping total of $1 million to help improve community parks. Their funds have created new skate parks, renovated a community youth center, upgraded a sports field and more. Want the Kraft Celebration Tour to come to your community? Just head over to the Kraft Celebration Tour website and nominate your community for a chance to win $25,000 to improve your community parks…or build a new one! Not only could your community win the generous donation, but it could also be broadcast live on TSN!
From now through June 7th, nominate your community for the Kraft Celebration Tour by sending in a short essay and a few photos (up to 5) that talks about why your community deserves to be part of the tour. Let Kraft know how that $25,000 could help improve your park experiences! Make sure you focus on how a new park or community space will help foster a strong sense of community and promote physical activity.
On June 30, TSN and RDS will announce the 20 finalists selected by a panel of judges. After that, it’s up to Canada to decide the 10 winning Kraft Celebration Tour stops! You can keep up with the Kraft Celebration Tour on social media by visiting and liking the Kraft Celebration Tour Fan Page on Facebook. Follow along and interact on Twitter with the hashtags: #KCT and #tourneedecelebrationkraft.
Will you nominate your park? What improvements would you love to see in your community’s play space?
