When I told my daughter that we will be making Honey Christmas cookies, she frowned and said: But I want to make sugar cookies for Santa, otherwise he won’t give me nice gifts.
Don’t worry child, Santa will be generous with you and he will love your Honey Christmas cookies. I did not tell her that her dad and I will end up eating the christmas cookies and we wanted a healthier version of the traditional sugar cookies. Let’s keep the secret between us, okay? Now let me tell you how you can prepare delicious Honey Christmas cookies and serve them for Santa on Christmas EVE.

- 2 cups of all-purpose flour
- 1/2 tsp of baking powder
- 1/4 tsp of salt
- 1/4 cup of margarine.
- 1/3 cup of brown sugar
- 1 egg
- 1/4 cup of honey
- Holiday cookie cutters. I like using these Wilton cookie cutters as they are dishwasher safe and come in different shapes.
- Sprinkles for decoration, if desired
Make these healthier Honey Christmas Cookies recipe with your kids
- Heat oven to 350F
- In a medium bowl, whisk flour, baking powder and salt
- In a separate large bowl, beat margarine and brown sugar until creamy.
- Add the egg and honey
- Add the flour and whisk gently until you have a nice dough
Now let the fun begin. Give the cookie to your child. Let him or her have fun making the shapes. My daughter’s favorite shape was the snowman one. I prefer the star shape. Which one is your favorite?
- Decorate and bake for 10 minutes.
Yields about 12 cookies. It can yield more if you use small cookie cutters but my daughter wanted large ones.
While these Christmas cookies will be perfect for Santa, they can also be a great edible gift idea. The teachers, the neighbor or the hostess in your lives will be happy to enjoy your delicious homemade treats. Make sure to buy a nice box from the Dollar store or Amazon and you have a nice budget friendly gift idea. Make sure to double the ingredients as you will end up eating a bunch right from the oven!

TOO MUCH SALT I made these tonight and they were soon salty–i didn’t even use near as much as it called for. My poor little guy was crying because he was so excited to eat one and then couldn’t.

These sound delicious and I love honey so it doesn’t matter to me at all that there’s no sugar. I love the Wilton cookie cutters and yes the snowflake is definitely my favourite 🙂

Oooh I love them ^^
Remember to use pure honey. Most all commercial brands have other things added, such as corn syrup. You also don’t want to use honey imported from China. Look it up – you’ll be amazed at the way honey has been contaminated – and our labeling laws are far from adequate. Look for local honey to be sure it’s pure!
I love how you substituted honey to the traditional sugar cookie! I’m definitely going to be trying these!
