Emmet Otter’s Jug-Band Christmas (1977)

Emmet Otter’s Jug-Band Christmas is based on the book of the same name. This heartfelt holiday movie doesn’t get as much press as some of the others. But, it’s definitely a production you don’t want to miss. Follow the trials and tribulations of Emmet (and his Ma ) as they try to earn the money to buy each other a present, by winning the local talent contest.

A Christmas Story (1983)

Let’s face it! Christmas is it really Christmas until you watch this movie at least three or four times. It’s a classic like no other. All Ralphie Parker wants for Christmas is a BB gun. He tries his best to convince his parents and his teacher that it’s the greatest gift ever. But, it’s much harder to convince them than he thinks… especially when Mrs. Parker knows he’ll shoot his eye out.

Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer (1964)

Speaking of classic movies, Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer is another example of a Christmas movie that never loses its popularity. Rudolph and Hermey just want to be accepted for who they are. They go on a dangerous journey, meeting new friends along the way. Eventually, they meet up with Santa who needs Rudolph’s help. Without it, there will be no toys for Christmas!

Shrek the Halls (2008)

If your family can’t get enough of Shrek movies, chances are they’ll probably love Shrek the Halls. This shorter (22-minute) movie follows Shrek as he tries his best to make his family’s first Christmas as festive as possible. So, what’s the problem? He doesn’t have any experience, only advice from his Christmas for Village Idiots guide book. The question is… will he succeed?

A Charlie Brown Christmas (1965)

Charlie Brown has a problem. He thinks the true meaning of Christmas gets lost in all of the commercialism of the season. Even though he struggles as the director of the annual Christmas pageant, with the help of the whole Peanuts gang and a sad looking little fir tree, the spirit of Christmas prevails.

What is your favorite family Christmas movie? Did it make the list? If not, please feel free to mention it below. And remember, the holidays are meant to spend time with family. So, pop some popcorn, make some hot chocolate and start watching!
