Today I’m sharing a delicious and easy holiday appetizer recipe for all those parties! Let me tell you, I cannot believe we are already at December 14th. I have so many things to finalize before Christmas: Gifts to buy and ones to wrap, cleaning my house before the visit comes. I am sure you understand my situation, and maybe you are in the same boat. The festivities start on the 18th until the 27th. I have a large family and the holidays are the perfect time to get together. A holiday gathering says food, right? Since I will be attending many and hosting some, I have to prepare easy dishes and yummy holiday appetizers. I have been doing some recipe testing, and one of my favorites is filled dates with ricotta and Patak’s Canada Mango Chutney.

My family loves dates and cheese and is a huge fan of Mango Chutney. Last year, I made this delicious holiday appetizer: Holiday Appetizer Recipe: Chutney, Cheese & Cranberry Bites and they loved the yummy flavor Chutney added. I decided to go again with this delicious flavor. I will be testing a new flavor Patak’s Canada added to its line: Major Grey Chutney. As a Cultured Kitchen Ambassador with Pataks, I got to try it out!  It is a thick mango chutney with a distinctive taste of ginger. It is a pure delight to the palate. Let’s see how you can impress your guests.

Ricotta & Mango Chutney Stuffed Dates Holiday Appetizer Recipe

The idea of this appetizer was inspired by one of my friends. She made Ricotta-Stuffed Bacon-Wrapped Dates for her birthday party. It was so good. All the guests (And I mean ALL OF THEM) loved this holiday appetizer. I decided to prepare a variation of this dish. I did not add bacon as I did not want it to override the mango chutney taste. Besides, my variation does not require baking, contrary to my friend’s dish. It’s a win-win situation.

Ingredients

  • 25 Medjool dates (adjust quantity to the number of guests)
  • 1/3 cup of Ricotta cheese
  • 2 TBSP of Major Grey Chutney.
  • 1/4 cup of mixed nuts
  • Crackers

Prepare it:

  • In a small bowl, mix Ricotta cheese with Mango Chutney
  • Remove the pits from the dates:
  1. Cut them in half (Make sure not to separate the two halves)
  2. Remove the pits using either a knife or your bare hands (clean of course)
  • Using a small spoon, fill the date with Ricotta and mango chutney
  • Top with almonds or your favorite nuts
  • You can also top your crackers with the mixture. It adds a nice variation to your appetizer plate.

Voilà! As easy as that and totally delicious. Mango Chutney adds a delicious flavor to the plain Ricotta Cheese. The almonds (or nuts) add a nice crunch to your appetizer. And this appetizer takes only minutes to prepare.

  1. My goodness, that looks like an amazing recipe which is so delicious & yum. I love dates so much & the combination of nuts, cheese & all those items makes it so special & healthy as well.

  2. Perfect timing for this post! We are having a family holiday gathering where everyone makes two tapas dishes to share. I am already planning to make a mascarpone-filled fig, and this will compete the perfect duo!

  3. This is a great holiday recipe and I think it’s best enjoyed over a bottle of wine for a touch of glamor! :) I love that it’s so easy to do and it only takes some minutes to get done.
