The Expectant Father:

Facts, Tips and Advice for Dads-To-Be by Jennifer Ash and Armin A. Brott- This is a great book that shows expectant dads all the changes they will go through during their partner’s pregnancy including physical, emotional and financial. The Expectant Father: Facts, Tips and Advice for Dads-To-Be is filled with expert advice and wisdom from birth-class instructors to obstetricians to sociologists to psychologists. The book provided soon-to-be dads with a month to month guide on everything they need to know about pregnancy.

The Caveman’s Pregnancy Companion:

A Survival Guide for Expectant Fathers by David Port and John Ralston– This book is written in a way that most dads can relate: with humor and caveman art. The Caveman’s Pregnancy Companion: A Survival Guide for Expectant Fathers features an array of topics from what to expect at the visits to the doctor to what is causing mom’s pain and discomfort during labor and delivery. The book has a variety of bullet points, charts and tables to make it easy to read.

So You’re Going To Be A Dad by Peter Downey

This is the ideal book for first-time fathers because it gives them all kinds of valuable and helpful information including topics such as pregnancy, labor and delivery and caring for your newborn. Dads will learn exactly what it feels like to give birth, how to deal with changing a dirty diaper and how to baby-proof the home. So You’re Going To Be A Dad is written by a physician that has decades of experience with babies and children.

Quarterback Dad:

A Play by Play Guide to Tackling Your New Baby by Booby Mercer and Alison D. Schonwald– Quarterback is a term that dads can totally relate to so this book is designed for new dads or dads that just need a refresher. Who would have thought to create a book that explains all about pregnancy, childbirth and baby care in football talk? Well, these authors did and they did an amazing job of combining text with illustrations, all in football terms. The book features four sections: Training Camp, Pre-Season, Regular Season and Super Bowl. Training Camp deals with the pregnancy, Pre-Season deals with labor and delivery, Regular Season is the baby’s first year and Super Bowl is all of the first year’s triumphs.

Can I add ‘Expecting the Unexpected: One Man’s Journey Through a Most Eventful Pregnancy’ to the list? If you like dramatic stories and British humor, and are prepared to weep a little (they have a really tough nine months!) then you’ll love this, regardless of whether you’re a mom or dad-to-be.

This is so great. I know a lot of men freak out when they find out their wife or girlfriend is expecting (at least mine did!) It’s really good to see there are books geared towards them to answer their questions and concerns.

I didn’t do anything according to books for all four of my children. It was all flying by the seat of my pants fathering.

Nice roundup. My husband never read a book while pregnant. Possibly because I was constantly talking about it so he figured he was prepared. 😉

This is great because a lot of parenting books only cater to mothers! I think this could really help with fathers who are also looking to be ready for the arrival of their little one!
