Last year I reviewed Kathryn the Grape’s Colorful Adventure written by written by Kathryn Cloward, with Ginny Hornby and illustrated by Christine Winscott. This book presented the main character, Kathryn, and her vividly COLORFUL imagination. We followed her progress on an emotional journey which is aided by a magical butterfly named Maggie who is her guide and friend. Along the way, Kathryn explored the skills, talents and personal attributes that make her special and the reasons why she DOES belong in her family. Cloward has now released a musical CD titled, Believe- Kathryn the Grape Songs for Kids of All Ages. This CD and the previously released books- help promote ways that children can express emotions and healthy confidence in one’s abilities. This is an important theme for preschool and school aged children.
When I listen to this CD at home, immediately my daughter jumps up to twirl and wiggle to the songs. She likes to look at the photos in the CD case. She recognized the image of Kathryn and ran to get our copy of Kathryn the Grape’s Colorful Adventure book. The next day I brought this CD to share with the children at my child care center. The little ones were up and moving to the beat of the happy music in no time. I put it on repeat because it has a short play time, clocking in at less than 30 minutes.
What I liked about Believe- Kathryn the Grape Songs for kids
- The music is upbeat, peppy, and easy for children of all ages to listen and dance to.
- The song lyrics offer positive messages and promote healthy self esteem.
- Is a great extension of the Kathryn the Grape books.
- The CD case has a neat fold out design made of cardboard – which means no plastic case for Princess Destructo to crack the cover off.
- The song lyrics are written on the inside of this fold out design, which means no liner notes to lose.
I would recommend this CD as a gift for a school aged child ( 3- 9 years old). It would be great to pair it with one of the two Kathryn the Grape books. Though I wish the CD was a little longer because it only offers approximately 25 minutes air time and this short CD is being sold for $15. On a positive note: Purchase the “Believe” CD or a “Kathryn the Grape” book from Kathrynthegrape and $1 will be donated to a children’s charity. The items will also be autographed by author Kathryn Cloward.
