Brushing 101: Tips for Getting Those Teeth Truly Radiant!

Don't let that Halloween candy rot away those pearly whites! Find out how to get a truly radiant smile with these easy tips and the right brushing tools!

We cannot avoid Halloween candies, can we? Even if set strict rules, even if I hide the candies, kids will eat Halloween candies at school, at their friend’s, during trick or treating. I am not crazy about it, but I cannot help it. Besides, it’s once a year (for most of the kids). However, if we don’t brush teeth properly after, it will result in cavities and painful visits to the dentist. To avoid that, we must make sure that all the family members follow some basic brushing guidelines.

Get the right tools

It may seem obvious but having a good toothbrush is a must. The Truly Radiant™ Extra White Manual Toothbrush is the only manual brush that features a unique rotating head, plus elongated all-access bristles designed to blast away surface stains. Using this brush will not only help keep teeth pearly white, it will also help brush away any newly formed cavities caused by Halloween overindulgence. Pair this with the Truly Radiant™ Rejuvenating Toothpaste and you have yourself a winning cavity fighting pair.

It’s in the technique

Most dentists recommend brushing for a minimum of two minutes. Consider getting a timer for little ones. I found it improved my daughter’s brushing technique. Make sure you hold the brush at a 45-degree angle using short strokes and an up and down motion. Be gentle when brushing. Brushing too hard is not good for your teeth and mouth

Does your toothbrush look frayed?

You don’t buy a toothbrush for life. While we would love that, we cannot. Dentists recommend to change it every three to four months. If your toothbrush looks old and frayed, it is time for a change. I usually stock up on toothbrushes when they are on special. When it’s time for a change, I have at least one on hand.

Do you have any brushing techniques to add to these? How do you scare the cavities away?

  1. One thing I always recommend is an electric toothbrush. I absolutely love mine, and I think it has really helped keep my teeth cleaner. Get some replacement brushes and you’re good to go for life! Thanks for sharing the tips.

  2. I always keep a few extra toothbrushes in my cupboard so that I can be prepared in case the one I’m using gets frayed. I have found that using an up and down motion when brushing is the most effective. The motion allows you to brush your teeth and gums simultaneously. The side to side motion is also effective but it doesn’t clean as much of the surface area that it needs to.

  3. I like your tip on stocking up on toothbrushes when they’re on sale. It seems that this would make it a lot easier to change the toothbrush at the three-month mark. I imagine that it would also be important to see a dentist for a professional teeth cleaning every six months or so.

  4. Those are pretty awesome tips, perfect for the children. I normally brush within the two to three minute mark and I love the feel of clean teeth, so I make sure I brush often.

  5. As a Dental Hygienist, I love seeing posts on dental care! I would just add that I prefer the circle technique to brushing, still at 45 degrees, but gentle circles instead of up and down. Also, if your bristles are fraying it means you are brushing too hard. That’s all for my two cents. Brush on!

  6. Great tips! I have sensitive teeth so I use a natural toothpaste so as to not irritate them but this brush looks like it would be so soothing on my teeth.
