Finding a good dog food in a convenient location can be a challenge. One of my kid’s chores is to feed our dogs every day. The downside to giving that responsibility to our children is that too many times I find myself having to dash to the pet store to pick up dog food because they used the last of it yesterday and didn’t mention we ran out.
Many times I am already at Walmart when I get an urgent text to pick up more dog food. Unfortunately, we don’t buy kibbles at the grocery store because usually whatever we pick up will upset their stomachs. It’s a 20-minute drive to the local pet store where we normally shop. So, when I learned that Nature’s Recipe Dog Food was new and available for purchase at Walmart I did a little happy dance.
We have a large boxer and a small Chihuahua, they make an adorable combination. However, that means we have to buy two separate bags of good quality dog food and that can get pricy. So, you can see my excitement about Nature’s Recipe Dog Food being sold at Walmart. There are a few factors you don’t want to overlook when purchasing dry dog food: an animal protein or meal listed first, grain free, vegetables, and the proper size for the dog. While there are many more factors that are also important, if you are looking for an affordable dog food that isn’t low quality then this is where you start.
The first ingredient in Nature’s Recipe Small Bites Chicken Meal and Rice is chicken meal. Chicken is a great source of animal protein, but it can be heavy. Chicken meal, on the other hand, supports the protein in the chicken without being as dense. Chicken meal contains bone, skin, and tissue in addition to meat. This allows more protein in the food with less moisture.
The grains used are rice, barley, and oatmeal. Each of these grains is high in fiber. There is no wheat or corn in the ingredients. The vegetables used are tomato pomace. If you keep reading the ingredients you will see it is full of vitamins that encourage your dog to grow strong, like beta carotene and folic acid, followed by minerals like zinc and calcium. Nature’s Recipe dog food also comes with a guaranteed analysis of ingredient ratios. This means each time you buy a bag of food you know it is full of the same healthy nutrients as the last time.
Since the ingredients looked good the next step was to make sure it passed my dog’s test. We gave our little Chihuahua a bowl following the suggested serving size on the package.
He sniffed around for a little bit before decided the food was up to snuff and started gobbling the little kibbles down. We had a winner. When it comes to convenience and affordability, Nature’s Recipe Dog Food seems to pass the test as a healthier option for your dog that won’t break the bank.
