This post is brought to you by Mentored. All opinions are our own.
When the kids were little, I remember sitting down at the kitchen table with them while they did their homework. I’d offer suggestions when they had questions about how to find an answer to a math problem. I’d point them to the right area of the textbook if they were struggling to define a word. It’s a time I remember fondly because it was a great way to bond.
Mentored App Review
As they got older, it was a little bit harder to help them with their homework than when they were younger. I’ve always been great with English and writing, but not so good at math and science. As they entered high school, their homework started to become a challenge for me. While I have a college degree, it’s been a long time since I had to figure out the answer to a geometry question or remember the elements on the periodic table. I didn’t know anyone else who had a better grasp on these classes than I did so I wasn’t sure what to do to give them extra help.
Thankfully, I found out that there is a helpful app that can help kids with their homework. Mentored is the safe, easy and affordable way to connect with experts for help in math, science, literature, and more! By using the app and website students in grades 7 through 12 and even college can get one-on-one homework help from a community of trusted experts.
During a session with a Mentor they can get homework help, prepare for upcoming exams, or just get a little bit of extra help in a subject they may be having a hard time in. Mentored removes all of wasted time that is usually associated with tutoring. Students simply choose the help they need, and they are instantly connected with someone who can help them get a firmer grasp of the subject they require help with. All of their mentors have passed extensive screening (interviews /background checks), so I have no worries using this service.
Using Mentored, you choose the topic that you’re struggling with, and the app connects you with a Mentor that can help you. They can answer a particular question if your child is stuck on one problem, or they can help you study for a test. After you are connected with a Mentor, you communicate with them via chat much the way you would talk with a friend via text messages. This makes the communication style very familiar for your child since most kids text their friends frequently.
The Mentor will work with your child by asking them step by step what they think they should do next. If they are correct, they receive positive reinforcement. That is great because it gives them more self-confidence in the skill they are struggling with. If they aren’t sure how to proceed to the next step, the Mentor will break it down into smaller steps and offer helpful suggestions to guide them toward the correct answer. It doesn’t matter what time of day it is; there is a Mentor that’s available to help.
I like that there is the option to chat with the microphone but also just via text if your child feels more confident using the app that way. At the end of the session, you can rate your Mentor and leave comments about their performance. At $5 for up to 20 minutes one on one time with a Mentor, this is an affordable way for me to get extra help for the kids. You can extend your session if you need to, but the Mentors are experts in their chosen subject, so I had no need to do that. Plus, they have a lot more patience than I do helping with lessons.
The Mentored app is a must-have for any parent who struggles to help their kids with homework or for college students who need help getting through a class. It’s available both on the desktop as a web app and in the App Store. I recommend the app because it’s just so convenient to grab your phone or iPad and connect with a mentor.
Thank you very much for the great review and positive comments on Mentored. With technology and incredibly talented and dedicated teachers and experts, live 1:1 help doesn’t have to cost hundreds of dollars anymore. We welcome the opportunity to help all of your children succeed in school…and please spread the word about Mentored!
What a great app. I wish we had this app when we were studying! I hope to try this app soon.
This sounds like a really great app! I hadn’t heard of this app before. Thanks for sharing.
Whaaat! I totally could have used something like this when I was in school! Im definitely saving this for my kids!
Wow this is amazing. Wish this existed when I was in school. I hated maths and always struggled.
I wish something like this was around in my school years! I’ll have to definitely keep them in mind since I have one child currently in school.
What a great service! There were only a couple services available when I was a teen that you actually had to go to a place for a tutor/ mentor to get help.
I think this is handy for children who have extremely busy parents.
This seems like a great resource, when I find harder and harder to help my son! Thank you for sharing it!
This sounds great! My son struggles sometime with his instructions, when he gets older this would be perfect for him to use.
With the new methods in solving math, both the hubs and I need to go back to school because we don’t know how to do it. Funny, right? Good thing, our son never asked for our help when it comes to homework. Modesty aside, he’s such a smart young boy and has always been on the honor roll.
They can help the child if stuck. AND they can help the moms helping the child, if the mom is stuck ;) :)
This app is going to be very helpful for my girls! Can’t wait to try it out this week.
Oh wow! This seems like great service!! I need to look into this…thanks!
There’s an app for that ;) lol. My kids haven’t reached the homework stage yet, but we’re aaaaalmost there. Will have to save this resource for future reference!
I wish this was made available when my kids were growing up. I had to study integral calculus and advanced algebra to help my kids with their homework! I always had a hard time with Math, but I had to learn to help my kids.
this looks like an awesome tool! i will be sure to share this information with my niece and nephew!
omg, i wish they had this back when I was in high school. I need to send this to my sister. She could use some help in math!
Hi, Ellen! Thanks for letting us know about the app. I could remember when I was still studying, it’s inevitable to have some subjects or topics that are difficult to understand. I’m thankful that the newer generation can take advantage of apps like Mentored and be able to get the help they need.
Wow this sounds so helpful. I remember being pretty lost on some of my kids’ more advance homework. It would be nice having experts available to help.
I could have used this when I was a kid. I will definitely be using this with my son. I think this could help him by leaps and bounds.
Oh my goodness. That math question was so difficult. I would be going this Mentor App too if I had to work on questions like that. Coolest App ever.
I struggle with all subjects when the kiddos bring home homework. I feel so in the dark when they ask for help and I have no clue what is being taught to them.
This is a great app for homework help. I am going to show this to my daughter.
i hope this app is still around when my kids are in grade school because so many things have changed! i don’t know if i’ll be able to keep up with them!
I am always a proponent of using technology to help educate our children. It’s one small step in overhauling our failing education system.
This sounds like a great app! I’m sure this would come in handy on the days my kids need help with homework and I can’t remember how to do it!
This seems like a great resource in a world where homework is getting harder and harder to help with.
This is a fantastic app! I’ve had to muddle through helping my kids with math. It can only loosely be called help, though.
Now that my kids are on the common core system at school, I need this. I spend WAY too much time watching YouTube videos trying to figure that stuff out.
I don’t have children but I was a Special Education Teacher, and this sounds like a useful app, many times both parents work and want to be sure that their children are getting good help with their homework after school, especially when they can’t be there to help them themselves.
