Easy Cheesy Gratin Dauphinois Thanksgiving Appetizer Recipe


  • 4 1/2 lb of Yukon Gold potatoes
  • 1 1/2 cup of Gruy√®re cheese
  • 2 cups of heavy cream
  • 1 clove of garlic peeled and cut in half
  • 1 tbsp of nutmeg
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 3 tbsp of melted butter


  1. Preheat the oven to 400 F
  2. In a large saucepan, bring water to boil. Add salt.
  3. Cook potatoes (not peeled) until they are soft but not too soft! Around 15 minutes. Drain
  4. Peel potatoes and slice them about 1/8 inch thick. *It is important that you don't overcook potatoes or you won't be able to slice them. You don't want mashed potatoes, do you?
  5. Transfer potatoes into a square or rectangular baking dish
  6. In a small bowl, mix the cream, garlic, nutmeg, 1 cup of cheese.
  7. Pour the mixture onto potatoes and mix gently
  8. Bake for 15 minutes or until golden brown
  9. Add the remaining cheese during the last 5 minutes of baking
  10. Let is stand for 10 minutes!
  11. Serve with your favorite main dish.
