My Review of the Rubbermaid Lunch Box Kits

It reminded me of a Japanese Bento box, but for North-Americans. It came with small containers for snacks and larger ones for meals, and with the inclusion of Blue Ice — a fridge / freezer supplement – my food stays fresh and cool the entire day.

As soon as my son saw the containers his eyes lit up. He started to plan his lunch immediately.

Day One:

Both my son and I used the containers.

  1. Sandwich container (615 mL, 2.6 cups) – Salami on whole wheat bread.
  2. 2 Snack containers (118 mL, 05 cup) – hard-boiled egg in one container and salt water in the second container.
  3. 1 side container (283 mL, 1.2 cups) – filled with left over pasta salad from our big barbecue the night before.
  4. 1 Salad kit container (1.2L / 5.2 cups) – filled with Boston lettuce and cucumbers.
  5. 1 Divided Tray container (360mL, 1.5 cups) – filled with left over pasta salad from our big barbecue the night before.
  6. 1 dressing container (53 mL, 1.8 oz) – hard-boiled egg

I went to a friends’ house to show her my Salad kit container and she pulled out a new dressing from her fridge for me to try! We both felt the containers were smartly designed. They were easy to use and close and they snapped together well after I had my lunch. When my son returned from school his lunch was empty and all the containers returned! He loved having lots of different tastes to try.

Day Two:

  • 1 Sandwich container (615 mL, 2.6 cups) – filled with left over chicken from the night before.
  • 2 Snack containers (118 mL, 05 cup) – 1 hard-boiled egg in one container and dried cranberries in the other.
  • 1 side container (283 mL, 1.2 cups) – filled with potato salad from last nights dinner.
  • 1 Salad kit container (1.2L / 5.2 cups) – filled with carrots and cucumbers and Boston lettuce.
  • 1 Divided Tray container (360mL, 1.5 cups) – filled pretzels sticks.
  • 1 dressing container (53 mL, 1.8 oz) – filled with Ranch dressing.

My son took everything the second day and cleaned out our fridge. I loved the idea of sending him vegetables and lettuce for lunch (on his request) as a healthy mid-afternoon snack option. I also added a “snack” of pretzels. When he came home the entire lunch was finished. I knew that I had done a great job.

The well-designed Lunch Box and Salad Box allow my family to make smart and healthy choices on a daily basis. tired of soggy sandwiches and wilted lettuce for lunch? Rubbermaid’s new lunchbox containers are perfectly portioned to keep everything in its place. They are space efficient, easy to use and the snap-in Blue Ice keeps food chilled.

  1. The salad kit is great – keep things fresh separately before you want to mix…just like you would if you were making a salad @ home…

  2. I love the different sizes so I can pack a lunch or dinner to go of a different variety and not have to just use one big size for everything.

  3. I get tired of giving my daughter sandwiches in baggies…most of it comes home squashed into her lunch bag. I love the fact that they all fit together with the ice pack to keep things cool and a sandwich container to keeo things…unsquashed! :) Awesome set.

What I really like about these kits is how versatile they are. In particular, I eat 4-6 very small meals a day rather than 3 large and these kits are great as they allow for separation of several different foods. It would work great for my needs. Thanks for the chance to win!
