Pursuing your dreams against all odds is not an easy thing. Ever since I was eight years old, I wanted to be a writer. Instead of pursuing that dream when I grew up, I took the “safe” path. I became an accountant and spent ten years in a job that made me miserable.

My kids were a big part of the reason I decided to pursue my dream. I wrote for them and about them. When the time came to make the leap from my safe but unhappy job to one I love, I wasn’t just thinking about me; I was also thinking about the example it would set for my kids. I don’t want them to grow up and squash their dreams.

I want my children to pursue their dreams, work hard for it, even when they feel like the odds are against them. It is one of the reasons why I loved ZOOTOPIA. It is an inspirational movie for the whole family. I can’t wait to add it to my Blu-Ray collection. It will be available on Blu-ray™, Digital HD & Disney Movies anywhere on June 7th.

This Disney animation comedy-adventure film showed us how determination and strong will can be powerful. The fabulous character of Judy Hopps, the first bunny to become an officer (against all odds) on the Zootopia Police Force, proves that hard work and believing in yourself can really take you anywhere. Best of all, the movie delivered the message in a funny way that gave us lots of giggles and laughter. No wonder we loved it, it is from the creators of Frozen and BIG HERO 6, two other movies we really adored.

‘You can be anything you want to be if you work hard’

After seeing the movie, I was really inspired to make sure I understood my daughter’s dreams. I wanted to help her fulfill them. She may only be 8, but it’s never too early to nurture those ambitions. Remember, I was 8 when I decided I wanted to write!

Instead of giving her a pep talk, I wanted to create a learning and bonding moment around a fun Zootopia-inspired recipe. Activities like baking (or no-baking in this case) give us the time to bond and talk our hearts out.

My daughter was impressed by the paw-shaped popsicles she saw in Zootopia.  They were adorable. So we decided to make our own! Instead of red paw-shaped popsicles, I went with blueberry ones. This powerful berry has many nutrients, and it also helped the good guys win in the film. It was my daughter’s idea. She wanted a winning fruit as the main ingredient! Guess I am raising a winner and I couldn’t be prouder.

  • Blend the ingredients together
  • Pour into the mold
  • Freeze for 30 minutes.

While we were mixing and preparing these delicious blueberry paws-sicles, my daughter shared her dream of becoming a dancer. She knows she has some coordination issues, but she says she can overcome them with hard work, just like Judy Hopps did. I was so proud of her, and I am willing to help her achieve her dreams! “You can be anything you want to be if you work hard” was the movie motto and I couldn’t agree more.

This fun Zootopia-inspired recipe wasn’t just delicious to enjoy together, but it also really helped me connect with my daughter and discover her dreams. I often find that kids are more willing to open up when you’re talking about characters in a movie and doing a fun activity together than when you’re just sitting on the couch asking them questions.

Make sure to add this enjoyable family movie to your collection. It will be available on Blu-ray™, Digital HD & Disney Movies Anywhere on June 7. .  You can order your copy here: di.sn/6006BmY4p

  6. The thing I love most about these is that you didn’t just use juice. Using the entire fruit is a great way to keep all the health benefits.

  7. This is an awesome treat to make for the kids. I love making popsicles because I can choose which fruit to use. In addition, it gives me a chance to be “creative” with colors and shapes. Love this paw-shaped popsicles. I’ll have to get molds like that too.
