Homemade waffle recipes are my new addiction lately. I bought a waffle maker few weeks ago, and I am experimenting all kinds of homemade ones. Some of them turn out amazing and some of them not so much. My teen loves eating waffles. I find it is a healthy snack for kids: filling, made of natural ingredients and most of all: you can sneak in some fruits for fun fruit recipes. You can even sneak in veggies (yes veggies, stay tuned for the recipe).

The great thing about waffle batter or crepe batter is that you can add anything to it: you can make it a sweet batter or a savory one, or any other kind of batter! With those variations, a waffle can be a dessert, a snack, a meal. It can be anything. We just need to be creative and add ingredients that we love (or we want kids to eat). For this homemade waffle recipe, I sneaking in Apple Butter. I thought it would be a nice addition to the waffle batter as it will add flavor to it.

Ingredients
- 1 1/2 cup of flour.
- 1 pinch of salt
- 2 tsp of baking powder
- 2 eggs
- 1/4 cup of melted butter
- 3 TBSP Of apple butter.
- 1 1/2 cup of milk. (If the waffle batter is too thick, add more).
- Cranberries for decoration: optional
- Waffle maker
If you noticed, I did not add any sugar to the homemade waffle recipe. It is done on purpose. I don’t like adding sugar to batter because I want it to be versatile: either savory or pastry.
How to make this easy and healthy snack for kids
- In a bowl, mix the dry ingredients.
- Add the eggs, one a time and mix
- Add the apple butter.
- Add the melted butter and mix.
- Pour the milk slowly and mix. I use a hand mixer because it is easier for me but an electric hand mixer would be better.
- Bake the waffle as per the waffle maker directions.
It yields around 12 waffles.
Decorate with some cranberries. It is better when served hot with some apple butter as a topping.
Voilà. Bon appétit.
