
A few days ago, I shared this delicious Turkey with Bacon, walnut and dried cranberries stuffing Thanksgiving recipe. To accompany this meal, I made the following side dishes: Sweet and sour pumpkin & sweet potato as a side one. I also made a spiced cranberry sauce. I love spicy dishes, so does my family. I also like mixing pumpkin and sweet potato as they add a nice color to the dish, as well as taste. Besides, they are available at the farmer’s market. Nothing tastes like fresh produce. I wish I had access to fresh produce all year long.

Thanksgiving Side Dish 1: Sweet & Sour pumpkin and sweet potato
Ingredients
- 4 small sweet potato; peeled, and chopped
- 1 small bakers pumpkin; peeled, seeded and chopped
- Extra virgin olive oil
- 1/4 cup of maple syrup
- 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon
- 1/4 teaspoon allspice
- 1/4 teaspoon fresh grated nutmeg
- 1/4 teaspoon of ginger
- Salt and fresh ground pepper to taste
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 400 degrees.
- Combine all the chopped vegetables in a large bowl and toss with a few tablespoons of olive oil and maple syrup.
- Add the spices and toss.
- Spread the mixture on a parchment paper in a single layer.
- Roast in the oven for 30-45 minutes tossing once or twice.
- Serve warm.
Thanksgiving Side Dish 2: Spiced Cranberry sauce
Ingredients:
- 1 package fresh cranberries (Frozen can be used also)
- 1 3/4 C sugar
- 1/2 C water
- 1/2 tsp ground cinnamon
- 1/2 tsp ground allspice
- 1/8 tsp salt
- 1/8 tsp ground ginger
- 1/8 tsp ground cloves
Directions:
- Place all ingredients in a large saucepan and bring to a boil.
- Reduce heat and simmer until the berries pop and sauce begins to thicken.
- Will take about 30 minutes before being done.
- Cover and refrigerate until chilled.
These Thanksgiving side dishes are beyond delicious. My kids are used to eating spicy meals but if yours are not used to, consider making a non spicy side for the little hands. Don’t forget to come back in few days to get the Thanksgiving dessert I made. hint, hint: I will be using pumpkins.

I am not a fan of cranberry sauce, even though my mom always make it. I’m going to send her this recipe though. i love spicy food. I wonder if I’ll be a fan of this. you sure made it look delicious with your pics!!
I don’t like spicy food at all, so I prefer side dishes that are not spicy. We usually celebrate Thanksgiving at my BIL’s and my SIL does all the cooking and she never prepared spicy side dishes. Not sure if she doesn’t like spicy food too. :)

I can’t wait for the Thanksgiving holiday! Now this certainly is a different take on the traditional side dishes. I’ve never thought about a sweet and sour dish let alone combining the sweet potato and pumpkin.
