Learn how Walmart’s Online Grocery Service Will Change the Way You Shop!

Disclosure: I tested out Walmart’s Online Grocery service mentioned in this post, and received grocery shopping funds from Walmart in order to do so.

I’ve heard about ordering groceries online, but we have always lived outside of the service area. It was a luxury for someone who lives in a highly populated area. So when I discovered that Walmart Grocery was available in my area I squealed with excitement. Ordering groceries online was a dream come true, I can grocery shop without going into the store! I may never enter a grocery store again! Not really, there are still many reasons to go to the store, but Walmart Grocery has some fantastic uses.

How to Use Walmart Grocery to Save Time

I put the website to the test to make sure it would actually fit with our lifestyle. The first test was ordering through my phone. In order to use Walmart Grocery you have to use their website, there isn’t an app for it (although you can use an app to check in). However, the website is mobile friendly. This gave them major points in my book. I’ve attempted to order groceries online from other stores in the past and gave up quickly because the website didn’t work well on my phone. If the frustration of using the website is equal to the frustration of walking into the store, there is no point. With Walmart Grocery I had no frustration. Check out the screenshot to see user-friendly the website is. You literally just search or browse for what you need, add it to your cart, and adjust the quantity.

The next challenge was to see the variety of items I could purchase online. So, I searched for everything I could think of. I didn’t look only for food items either. I wanted everything I would normally buy at a grocery store. Could I get toothpaste, toothbrushes, soap, razors, diapers, makeup, medicine, and vitamins? Yes, I could! Feminine items of your choice, are available to order. I also searched for household items such as light bulbs, utensils, cleaners, and toilet paper.

I used Walmart Grocery to restock my pantry on items I was low on, but next time I am using it help with meal planning. Each week I make a menu, and then go through my cabinets to see what ingredients I need to add to my shopping list. However, once I get to the store I always forget items because I am distracted by keeping track of children in a jammed packed grocery store.

With Walmart Grocery I can add the items to my cart as I am making my list. Then I can double check items before checking out. There is a $30 minimum purchase to check out, but that isn’t an issue for me. The only time I spend less than $30 dollar at the grocery store is when I am making a last minute purchase because we ran out of milk. So last minute purchases you will still need to run to store. However, Walmart Grocery is great for larger purchases that you know you will need a few hours in advance, like your weekly meal planning or food for a party. I was able to order my purchase at 10 AM and pick up that afternoon. I checked in through the Walmart Grocery Check In app when I was on my way, and when I got there I only had to wait for about 5 minutes before my order was brought to my car. No unloading the kids, no arguing that they need to stay in the cart, and no digging out items I didn’t put in the cart.

I also picked up items for a recipe I have been wanting to make. I love the idea of hiding vegetables into baked goods, so I added everything to my cart to bake a batch. This recipe turned out fantastic, and we will be making more veggie loaded muffins in the future. My kids didn’t even know they ate spinach! That is a win in its finest form.

Ingredients:

  • 1 carrot boiled to soften
  • 1 ½ cups spinach leaves chopped
  • 1 banana mashed
  • 2 cups flour
  • ½ cup cocoa flour
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 2 tsp. Baking powder
  • ½ tsp salt
  • ½ baking soda
  • 1 egg
  • ½ cup milk
  • 2 ts vanilla extract
  • ⅓ cup dark chocolate chips

Directions:

  • Preheat oven to 350 degrees F. Mix all the ingredients besides the chocolate chips together, I dumped everything in a blender. This pureed all the vegetables so that the kids didn’t notice them.
  • Line a cupcake pan with liners. When the batter is mixed, ful each cup ¾ of the way. Top each cupcake with dark chocolate chips.
  • Bake for 20-23 minutes, or until a toothpick or form comes out clean after poking it in the center of the muffin. We baked ours for 22 minutes, and they turned out perfect.
  • Let cool before serving. Store in an airtight container in the fridge. To warm up, microwave for 15 seconds.

  1. I was very interested in your write up of grocery shopping online at Walmart. Two questions came to mind. One: If you order fresh produce how can you be sure that the quality would be the same as if you were choosing it yourself. The other question is: what is the charge for this service?

  2. This looks like a great service, I know with our busy daily lives this would be a huge time saver. I will have to see if it’s available in my area and give it a try.

Wow! how convenient is that! I’ll have to try this out sometime, like when I’m tired or busy, or sick, or the kids are wanting to buy things we don’t need and I don’t want to deal with it that day when I tell them no and they pout! thanks for sharing : )
