This post is brought to you by Maille. All opinions are my own.
I love coming up with new ways to add a little more flavour to my everyday menu. As a busy working mom, I rely on a few tried and true meal ideas to get me through the craziest days. The problem? Sometimes my kids get a little tired of eating the same sandwiches or snacks. I’ve discovered the secret to keeping things interesting, though, and I know you’ll want to hear it! I still serve the same basic foods, but I sweeten them up with Maille’s Honey Dijon Mustard!
You know how the right condiment can make or break a food? Well, with Maille’s Honey Dijon, I can make a routine classic seem like something entirely new that my kids just dive right into! Did you know that only 2 out of 5 Canadian children eat their daily recommended “7 a day” when it comes to veggies? With the perfect balance of sweet honey and tangy mustard, Maille’s makes it fun and easy for me to get my kids to eat more veggies and try new things! Check out 5 of my favorite ways to use Honey Dijon Mustard to sweeten up my family’s life!
5 Ways to Use Maille’s Honey Dijon Mustard That Even Your Kids Will Love
As a sandwich spread
One of the most popular ways to use Honey Dijon Mustard in my house is simply to spread it on our sandwiches! It adds so much flavour and much-needed moisture to an otherwise dry turkey sandwich. It’s even great on its own with a little tomato between two slices of whole-grain bread. Bonus: it has 3 times less calories and fat than most of the other condiments!
A tasty dip for veggies and pretzels
If you haven’t tried pretzels dipped in Honey Dijon Mustard, you absolutely must do it. It goes amazing with both soft and hard pretzels! It’s also a tasty way to add some zing to baby carrots, celery and other crunch veggies. You can use it alone or mix it with some Greek yogurt for a super creamy dip.
Dip for meats!
My kids love dipping their dinner meats – especially baked chicken tenders- into the mustard! While most of us think of it as a chicken dip, it really does go great with just about any meat.
As a marinade
If you have a little more time, take those meats to a whole new level by making a marinade! Put your meat in a container (goes amazing with both chicken and pork chops), then cover with enough mustard & olive oil to coat the meat. Shake it up and let it sit for at least half an hour. If you want a lot of flavor, put the marinade together in the morning before work and let it sit in the fridge all day. Dijon Mustard only has 30 calories per serving and is packed with good stuff, like Omega-3s, fiber, iron and magnesium.
A simple salad dressing
Forget those high-fat salad dressings! Make a super simple dressing instead! Just mix the mustard and a little oil and vinegar. Put it in a bottle and shake it up, then pour it over your salad. The Dijon acts as a binding agent between the oil and the vinegar, ensuring an amazingly smooth texture.
Maille’s Honey Dijon Mustard is so diverse, I bet you can find more amazing ways to use it that your kids will love. Did you know you can even use it in desserts? Seriously! Use it to add kick to a fruit salad, strawberry muffins and even chocolate torte! Don’t believe me?
