Need a kick after a sleepless night? How about an energy-boosting smoothie recipe? Smoothies are fast and easy, just what you need when you’re too tired to even think about making a complicated breakfast! Like those days when you’re feeling under the weather. This is by far the worst winter in our household. It was not the coldest but all the family members got sick one after the other. Thank goodness we were not sick all at the same time. First it started with my significant other, then my son and then my daughter. I was the last one to catch that nasty flu. Let me tell you: it knocked me out. The doctor said: well after taking care of 3 sick people, it is normal that you are hit hard. I was powerless and energy-less for over 4 weeks.

To boost my immune system and get back some kind of energy, the doctor suggested drinking a lot of water, liquids, oranges, and eating nuts. So my husband (my smoothie specialist) prepared this energy boosting smoothie on a daily basis. While this smoothie by itself did not cure my flu, it gave me the energy needed to start the day! And don’t we need it when we wake up dizzy from a sleepless night and achy body! Ingredients:

  • 1 large orange peeled. I like those delicious Navel oranges.
  • 2 carrots peeled and chopped. You can use baby carrots.
  • 1 Banana. I prefer using frozen bananas to give the smoothie that cold kick
  • 1/2  cup of milk. I used skim milk.
  •  1/2 cup of fresh pressed orange juice
  • 1/4 cup of Greek Yogurt: Plain or Vanilla
  • Optional: Few walnuts.
  • Optional: 1 TSP of honey

Make it:

Place all ingredients in the blender and puree until you reach your desired consistency. Add milk or juice if it is too thick. I prefer drinking a thick smoothie but some people don’t. It is best to drink it the same day, preferably right away.  I find that smoothies don’t taste as good when you let them sit too long. You can prep the ingredients ahead of time to make it easier for you though.

  1. Sounds refreshing and healthy! I have never tried orange in smoothies don’t know why. Should try it sometime. Thank you for linking up with us at #HomeMattersParty . We would love to have you again next week.

  2. I’m a blueberry and banana smoothie girl myself – and I love putting a tablespoon of flaxseeds and a tablespoon of protein powder – makes it SO good :)
