Celebrate the meaning of Diwali with a delicious seafood spaghetti recipe made with Patak's butter chicken sauce, plus learn how to make a Rangoli craft!

The month of November is full of celebration at OurFamilyWorld. I am proud to announce that I am a Cultured Kitchen Ambassador in partnership with Patak’s Canada and Blue Dragon Canada. It’s my third year working with these wonderful brands and I cannot wait to kick it off! These products became such a staple in my cooking that even my little one says: why don’t you add this from Patak’s Canada or that sauce from Blue Dragon. I love the taste. Even my friends (whom I spoil with some jars) keep asking for ideas and recipes and on how to include a little bit of Indian in their everyday cooking. My dear readers, stay tuned for upcoming delicious, easy recipes with Pataks’s Canada and Blue Dragon. You know how I love easy and quick recipes!

Each milestone requires a celebration. I will be celebrating this new partnership with Diwali. Did you know that on November 11th marks the date of Diwali, Festival of Lights? It marks the Hindu year. While I don’t have any Indian roots, I love celebrating with my community. I have lots of Indian neighbors who celebrate DIWALI. I was always curious to understand this holiday.  I am happy to cheer for them. Besides, I find it’s important that my kids understand the cultures around them. It’s like traveling while staying at home. Last year, I celebrated this Festival of Lights with this Curried Roasted Pumpkin recipe.

Diwali 2015 Celebration

To celebrate the 2015 Diwali, Patak’s Canada challenged me to decorate a Rangoli pattern. This traditional sign of Diwali symbolizes good luck. What a wonderful way to wish good luck: with colors, designs and yummy food. To help me decorate a Rangoli, I got this beautiful cutting board. It is so beautiful that I am too scared to use it for its own purposes: cutting. I was a bit nervous to  decorate this board. I am not a crafty person, nor a designer, but I was up to the challenge.

Rangoli Design: How To

  • Follow the pattern and your inspiration.
  • My daughter was on board for this activity. She loves decorating and her little hands are helpful.
  • It took us less than 15 minutes to decorate the board with spices and rice. And you know what? While we were making this activity, I felt relaxed. It’s as if time stopped and I felt hope and peace. I don’t know if it is the combination of spices, rice or the fact that I was sitting down with my daughter crafting. Anyways here is my first Rangoli pattern.

Happy Diwali to all those who celebrate.

Now like any celebration, we need some food to kick it off. Patak’s Canada challenged me to “Mix in a Little India” in my favorite family dish. What did I prepare? A Spaghetti with Butter Chicken sauce and sea food.

Now don’t frown or make a face. It came out so good. Why did I choose spaghetti? It’s my children’s favourite dish. I always have sea food in my freezer but I did not have a tomato sauce ready. Besides spaghetti meals are quick to prepare. I thought it would be a great idea to mix all these ingredients with some Patak’s Canada Butter chicken sauce.

Ingredients

Pataks Canada recipe spaghetti with butter chicken Ingredient

  • 1 package of spaghetti
  • 1 Patak’s Canada Butter chicken sauce for 2
  • 1 package of frozen sea food (around 1 pound)
  • 2 TBSP of oil
  • 1 tsp of ready to serve garlic

Make it

  • Heat water in a large pot and cook half of the spaghetti as the directions of the package. Reserve the rest for another dish.
  • In the mean, heat a  non-stick large wok
  • Add oil
  • Add garlic
  • Add the sea food
  • Cover and let it simmer for about 5 to 10 minutes or until tender. You don’t need to add water as sea food will
  • In the mean drain the spaghetti
  • Add the spaghetti to the sea food
  • Add the cooking sauce
  • Let it simmer for 15 minutes while stirring constantly.

Results

It is delicious. The Butter Chicken sauce added such a nice flavor to the dish. The sea food is sometimes hard to flavor but Patak’s Canada sauce was a perfect addition to them and to the spaghetti. It was not too spicy for the kids, who kept asking for more until we had no more. This meal took me less than 30 minutes to prepare.
