As everyone knows, the best gifts are the ones that are made with love! As the official holiday of love approaches (Valentine’s Day!) you might find yourself needing to come up with small Valentine’s Day gifts for your child’s classroom or teachers. Of course you could run to the dollar store and grab a box of pre-assembled valentines, but what fun is that? For nearly the same cost, you can whip up your own Valentine’s Day gifts: pencil toppers for friends and teachers. The best part? This sort of valentine can be used long after the holiday is over!
Pencil toppers are a great way to spread Valentine’s Day cheer and give each recipient a small gift they can use throughout the year. These Valentine’s Day gifts take just minutes to make, and only require a few materials you probably already have around the home. Take a peek at how you and your child can whip some of these cute Valentine’s Day gifts up yourself this season!
How to make Valentine’s Day Pencil Toppers
Simple Supply List:
- Pencils (you will want one pencil for each recipient. Dollar stores usually sell holiday themed pencils at 12 for $1.00!)
- Colored card stock
- Markers or metallic pens
- Hole punch
- Make a template for your kids to trace around. This template can be a heart, cupid, etc. A heart is most likely the easiest.
- Have your child trace the heart onto card stock and then carefully cut it out.
- Decorate with markers and stickers. You can write witty sayings such as “You are just write for me,” or “You’ve got the write stuff.”
- Use the hole punch to make holes on each side of the heart and slide a cool, themed pencil through.
That’s it! Repeat these steps until you have the desired number of Valentine’s Day gifts so that each child in the class and the teacher each get one. Allow your child to get as creative as she wishes, and decorate them according to their own specifications! If you really want to get fancy, you can add extra embellishments such as glitter or stick on jewels! Dollar stores carry both of these materials so you can add extra pizazz for very little.
Homemade Valentine’s Day gifts are nice because they truly allow your child to get involved in the giving process and give a favor that recipients can actually use! Parents and teachers will also appreciate these favors since most of the ones handed out at Valentine’s Day are sweets or sugary candy! These little Valentine’s Day gifts offer a refreshing change that won’t rot their teeth!
So gather the kids to the table and try making your own Valentine’s Day pencil toppers. It is a fun activity they will enjoy doing, and something people will enjoy receiving! Not to mention this activity is wallet friendly, tooth friendly, and parent approved. You may also enjoy making this Sign Language Valentine’s Day card while you’re at it.
