Turkey day is as much about the gorgeous Thanksgiving table decor as it is about the food. Okay, maybe not AS MUCH, but no other holiday screams “decorate that table!” more than Thanksgiving for some reason. Maybe it’s because Fall is just such an inspirational season for decorating. The colorful leaves, the last of the pumpkins, the browns and reds that so beautifully match the stuffing and the turkey…you get my point.
Here’s the thing: when it comes to decorating, easy is always best for me. Not just because time is a magical concept that doesn’t actually exist in my world, but also because I’m not exactly the craftiest kid on the block. When I headed to Dollar General to come up with easy Thanksgiving table decor ideas, I didn’t have anything particular in mind. I find that’s the easiest way to come up with decor ideas of any kind, really. If you have a set idea in your head, you miss out on other opportunities.
Thanksgiving table decor ideas with Dollar General
Dollar General has such an amazing Thanksgiving decor section. Seriously, the most extensive I’ve ever seen. I apologize for the somewhat fuzzy in-store picture, my phone camera isn’t that stellar all the time and I was brand-new to taking pictures with it when I went shopping for supplies. Here’s what I came home with:
At first, I wasn’t sure how I wanted to use everything. I actually used the leaves in our easy fall craft idea with Dollar General, but I had a ton left over. I knew I wanted to do some sort of family activity with the acorns though. So here’s what I came up with:
Grateful Acorns Family Activity
Before everyone arrives, lay the foam acorns out on the table (I surrounded them with the leaves to make them prettier). Put some markers out too. As guests arrives, ask them to take an acorn and a marker, then write down one word that describes something they are grateful for. Here’s the catch, though: it has to be different from anyone else’s. So if the first person picks “Family,” no one else can! Use the Grateful Acorns as place cards at the table, instead of name cards.
Other easy ideas from my Dollar General stash include:
- Tearing the leaves off the wire and scattering them across the table like confetti.
- Wrapping the silverware in Thanksgiving ribbon instead of a napkin.
- Placing mini festive foam pumpkins at each table setting.
- Planting pumpkin seeds in a little pot and decorating with the cute little foam leaf pics, then sending one home with each guest as a gift.
Coming up with easy and inexpensive Thanksgiving table decor ideas isn’t hard when you visit your local Dollar General for inspiration. They never let me down!
How do you decorate your table for Thanksgiving?
Very simple and easy on the wallet ! Love this thanks!
Thanks for the ideas! I can’t wait for Thanksgiving and all that comes with it!
You can really do a lot with things you pick up from the dollar store. I’ve thought about decorating the house for Christmas rather than just having the tree up. Maybe some garlands on the stair rail.
That looks really pretty. I love this time of year and I love the Dollar Tree, will have to go check out and see what they have for decorations.
Love these ideas! It doesn’t have to be expensive to decorate for the holidays.
Love this! Sometimes i don’t decorate because I think it takes a lot of money. But, these are great!
I love the idea of sending one home as a gift for guests. That’s a fun way for them to remember the night too.
We aren’t hosting Thanksgiving Dinner, but I love decorating.

We don’t really celebrate Thanksgiving. But having some ideas that can be applied as well for Christmas decors that’s inexpensive and easy to do won’t harm!
Great ideas! Love them! We never have anyone over just our big bunch so maybe next year I’ll try these with them:)
I have yet to host a holiday dinner but if I did I would definitely go to dollar general to find my decorations.

Thanksgiving table decorations…oh, wish I could do that! Over here in Sweden, half my friends eat on the couch/their laps/wherever people happen to fit!
I like the idea of having all different expressions of gratitude. This is a great idea!
Neat ideas. I like going to the dollar store and picking up some decorations. Most are ugly, but some are hidden gems!
I have one really close to my house. I need to get in there and buy a bunch of this stuff!
Super cute ideas! I love shopping at Dollar General!
Great ideas! i love decorating for the fall season. Gorgeous colours and so many options.
I’m not much of a decorator for the Thanksgiving/Fall season…but I do dress the table with a bowl of assorted nuts and a fancy nutcracker. Oh! And I do have decorative serving dishes/plates that I like to put out.
Love those decorations. I find that with everything on the table, there’s not usually much room for decorating!!
so cute – max loves acorns and picking them up in the park so he would love to make these – and we could sprinkle the little real ones too he’s collected!
I usually spend so much time on making the dinner I forget to do any decorating. May have to show these ideas to my wife and get her in gear!
This is so cute! I am hoping next year I can do something like this we have a really small table right now.
I love that the kids can help with this decorating project! The Grateful Acorns are a great idea!
This is the first year since I’ve owned my home that I am not hosting Thanksgiving dinner. And I am totally okay with that :-)
