The Gift of Comfort for a Hardworking Grandmother #WishesDelivered

A couple of weeks ago, we asked you to share your wish for someone else in the UPS #WishesDelivered campaign. In case you need a refresher, during the holiday season, UPS is partnering with charities and donating $1 for every selfless holiday wish shared with the hashtag #WishesDelivered. You can share this wish on Twitter or Instagram, or by visiting the #WishesDelivered site.

Remember, the key word here is “selfless.” Your wish must be for someone else and should be something that helps them. Something they NEED, or something that would make a wonderful impact in their life. Watch this heartwarming video to get a better understanding of the campaign.

Our Wish: The Gift of Comfort for a Hardworking Grandmother

In our first post, I hinted a bit about my wish. Now it’s time to tell you a bit about it! Our editor, Nicole, grew up with a single mom, Chris. She worked incredibly hard all her life to raise Nicole and her brother, Ryan. She spent 20 years working for the same company before it closed down. Right after the company closed, Chris broke her leg…on Christmas Eve! That was in 2009. Less than two weeks later, her father- Nicole’s grandfather- passed away. Chris had surgery on her leg the day before the funeral and was unable to attend. Between the loss of her job and her broken leg, it took a long time for Chris to get back on her feet, both literally and figuratively. She was left with pain in her leg as well as a bad back.

After years of trying to find work in a difficult market, Chris started her own business. Actually, she started a couple, testing the waters to see what worked best. She found her passion in helping independent authors promote their books, from the beginning stages of formatting them for different devices all the way to advertising them on the right sites. She also designs websites. She spends anywhere from 10-15 hours a day working in her very basic home office on an ancient wooden chair with nothing more than an inexpensive pad to help cushion it. Not exactly the best thing for a bad back!

Even though she’s been struggling financially, she still makes time to help others. She helps out with her grandson now that Nicole is a single mother herself. She’s quick to jump in and help solve any tech support problems that come up on our sites, Nicole’s site and even a friend of a friend of a friend, if asked!

Our wish: a comfortable, ergonomic plush office chair that allows her to work without feeling incredibly achy at the end of the day. After a lifetime of working so hard to take care of her family, she’s earned a bit of comfort! Although Chris could certainly use so much more to help her really get back on her feet, we though this would keep her comfortable while she’s sitting! After all, it’s often the little things that make the biggest difference.

  1. Very cool of UPS to do this. My wish is sort of selfish as I wish my brother would find a home of his own that he can afford so he can be with his family.

  2. This is such a great campaign UPS did. What i great gift to give her a comfortable work space that will be easier on her back.

  3. UPS is awesome, I love companies that give back. I would love to get my parents new flooring in their house. They need it bad and can’t afford it because of cancer treatments.

  4. I love that UPS is doing this. My wish is for another year with my FIL…. he went through chemo last year, then a bone marrow transplant about 4 months back and now we hear its his heart. Sometimes he feels like giving up, but we want him around… Ugh! Thanks for sharing

  5. My wish is for my mother. She has been suffering with Lupus and all the secondary problems for years. So many hospitalizations it is hard to even count them. Now she has severe mobility problems — they will be hopefully moving soon to a one story house so that she has some freedom instead of being trapped in her bedroom because she can’t do the stairs. A huge impact would be for her to have movers to pack – or help pack– up her current house. It is just too much for her. And while I help as much as possible I’m not a spring chicken anymore and still have to work 50 hours a week
