DIY Back to School Décor: Pencil Vase with Cute Burlap Bow

Today’s fun DIY back to school decor project is literally a pencil holder! Why? Because it’s actually made from pencils! Clever, right? Okay, so not JUST pencils, but still!  I’m not really the artsy crafty type. I love doing them, don’t get me wrong, I’m just not the best at it so I usually try and find the simplest stuff possible that looks hard. You know, to save face, because well, nobody likes to admit they stink at something as simple as crafting. Maybe it’s just my broken creative side, who knows. Either way, I’ve come up with a super easy and adorable piece of décor for back to school, like my crayon candy dish!

DIY Teacher Gift Idea: Crayon Candy Dish

Whether you’re a teacher or a parent wanting to get their kids back into the school mindset, this vase will take you no more than 30 minutes to create and would be fun to maybe do with the kids, if you have time!

Supplies

Directions:

1. Begin by making sure your face is clean on the outside for a better sticking surface.

2. Next, heat up your glue gun and begin putting lines of glue, one at a time, on the pencils. I alternated a #2 pencil and then a colored pencil and continued that until the vase was covered.

3. Make sure and decorate the vase with it standing straight up and down. This will help you get the pencils on straighter. If they’re not on straight enough, you will end up with a big gap at the end.

4. Once all your pencils are attached to the vase, take your piece of burlap and fold it twice, as shown in the photo.

5. Then, pinch the burlap in the middle and tie it with the piece of string to make a bow.
