Can you believe that summer is already coming to an end? It’s almost time to put away the swimming gear, pack up the flip-flops and sandals, and start your back to school shopping. Almost. We still have a few weeks left of summer bliss, so let’s make the most of it, shall we? We’re sharing a few of our favorite tips to really soak up every little bit of summer fun while still helping out kids get ready for the school year. Let’s check them out!

Get the Most Out of the Last Days of Summer

We're sharing a few of our favorite tips to really soak up every little bit of summer fun while still helping out kids get ready for the school year. Let's check them out!

  1. Set your clocks for more fun!

The week before kids go back to school, it’s time to start gradually implementing familiar routines and bedtimes, and that means earlier wake-up times. But waking up early doesn’t have to be a chore. After breakfast, start your day with a family outing—playing ball in the backyard or taking a hike to the park beats the couch any day! Bottom line, make waking up early more fun for the whole family!

  1. Allergy solutions that aren’t a pain

If your kids have seasonal allergies that flare up around school time (hello, ragweed), it can be tough convincing them to take their medicine. Luckily, we have some effective -medicine that relieves allergy symptoms…and come in great flavors! Your kids will be ready to hit the great outdoors with AERIUS Kids® or Claritin® Kids. Both offer 24-hour non-drowsy relief and come in a great-tasting syrup.

  1. Take a school tour

Heading back to school can cause stress for some kids (and parents!). Take some time together at the end August to visit the school before its time to start classes.   It’s a great time to talk about all the fun possibilities that come with going back to school – like seeing your friends or favourite teacher, or joining a school team.

  1. Set aside a special day

The days before back-to-school can get hectic. Make sure to set aside some time to have a special day with your little ones doing a favorite activity, or having one last summer adventure. Something as simple as backyard camping or spending a day having fun by the water can be a great time to reflect on your amazing summer activities.

  1. Treat nasal cold symptoms

Don’t let a summer cold or stuffy nose put a damper on your kids last summer days. hydraSense® has a solution just for young children that can clear nasal passages without medications or chemical additives.

What are some of the fun ways you and your kids are getting ready to head back-to-school? Do you have any tips or tricks for making the transition easier?

  1. I am all too familiar with having to deal with allergies when school starts. It’s always great to treat them so that they can enjoy those summer days.

  2. Why does summer go so fast and the school year go so slow? It is so sad. We are enjoying our last few weeks and packing in as much as possible!

  3. Can’t believe summer is almost over! We’ll take a school tour soon and hopefully, we’ll have one last adventure before the school starts.

  4. I am not looking forward to summer time ending. Ive been able to get a break from “running” the kids every where. We plan on spending a bit more time at the pool before it is too cold to enjoy it. :)

I have promised my kids to each a one on one special day before school starts! ( I usually have them both, but rarely just one on one because it’s a little more challenging as a single Mama!) these are great ways to spend the rest of the summer, thanks for sharing!

  6. Summer has just flown by! These are some great ways to get the most out of the last days of summer. I think we need one more special day!

  7. My kids are headed out on vacation with their grandparents. That will be their big bang for the end of summer. They both are allergic to grass, trees and weeds so we need to continue with a daily dose of allergy medicine.

  8. Totally agree with all of this. Love the first tip about getting back into routine earlier and spending time having MORE fun. Works both ways – gets the family back into getting up earlier for school AND more play time! Allergies are the worst! Many people think they are no big deal but they can make you feel HORRIBLE!

  9. We have less than three weeks left before school starts and we’re making the most of it – soccer camp for our son this week and hopefully a little road trip next week. We’ll see.

  10. Who wants to feel yucky when the weather is this good? Good to know how to keep allergies in check during the fleeting moments of summer.

  11. We still have a few more days left of summer. I’m trying to pack the fun in and keep everyone healthy!

  12. Seasonal allergies are NO FUN! I have seen so many kids experience this that it breaks my heart. So glad there are products like this out there for them!

  13. Now that we have a huge driveway and yard, my kids have been enjoying biking. I love that it allows them to burn off some energy.

  14. My kids are already grown, but when they were in school, we always reset our routines about 3 weeks before school started. I also tried to do the school tours, but it wasn’t easy when I was working during the day.

August is one of our busier months, back to school activities are ramping up. Thankful there are products like this to help with the annoying allergies.

  16. About 2 weeks before school starts we tend to get back into the regular bedtime schedule, normally my sons have the same bedtime all year round except every other Friday when we have a movie night but this summer I have been lax and pushed dinner time out, etc. I take the last 2 weeks of summer to get the routine back down to school schedule, that helps with transition.

My eldest son has allergies so bad that the minute he wakes up in the morning, he sneezes continuously for about 15 minutes straight. His symptoms are worst during spring and towards the end of the summer. Claritin and Aerius have provided him the best relief from his symptoms. Thank you for including them in your post.

  18. There is nothing worse than having seasonal allergies! Mine have been so bad this past week! I hope y’all have a fantastic last few days of summer!!

  19. Lisa Marie Heath

I don’t have allergies, but my son does so his Clariton is a MUST! These are great ideas to get out and enjoy the weather before it’s over!

  20. Only 1 week before school starts here. We are trying to fill our last few days with crafts, ice cream, and shopping as we can before they go back. We certainly don’t want to be slowed down by seasonal allergies, so these products are a must have on hand to ensure we can keep on truckin’ with the fun.

My kids go back to school soon. We are trying to cram in as much fun as we can before our summer is done!

  22. OurOrdinaryLife®

Nothing like that allergies kicking in in summer. It’s been so dry here too, that can do it too.

  23. Drowsy allergy relief options are so annoying. I like that you offered two solutions with 24 hour relief that won’t just knock kids out.

We are looking forward to back to school. We homeschool and we like it when crowds get smaller because everyone is in school again.

  25. Allergies! I think that’s what’s wrong with me. Thanks for this list. I’m dreading the end of summer. Glad that we have a bit more time left =)

  26. While I can’t wait for the kids to go back, we’re doing fun things to get the ready. We just refinished a bedroom to make it a quiet study place for both of them. They’re excited to have a desk to work at and a comfy chair to cuddle up and read in.

  27. Cherri Littleton Megasko

I always found these last few days leading up to the new school year were bittersweet. We always tried to give our kids one last blast of fun before summer ended.

  28. I can hardly believe its back to school for so many right now. My daughter still doesn’t have hers for another couple of weeks. So it still seems a bit off, but my niece and nephew begin in a week and a half. It’s just crazy.

  29. Great suggestions! Our kids start school is less than two weeks and we are really trying to savor every remaining moment of summer.

  30. Suffering from seasonal allergies is never fun. It’s good to know that there is an allergy solution like that.
