Camping

I love to camp!  I have been camping my whole life.  Something about being outside in nature recharges the batteries (yes even with kids!)  I have been taking my son camping since before he was one.  Before he started walking, it was easier; I could plop him down in the playpen for a bit for a nap or to play.  The fresh air was great for him as well, helped him sleep at night.  Some of my fondest memories growing up are camping with my family.  Go start making your own memories and traditions!

Beach

A friend of my recently had her 4th child and she made a comment about not making it to the beach this summer.  Why not?!  That baby is so small and portable.  You don’t need anymore for a day at the beach than anywhere else.  Maybe some extra sunscreen and a bassinet or playpen (sitting in a stroller or car seat all day can be hot especially when sleeping).  The sun, sand and sounds will help to lull your baby to sleep as well, so no need to stress about nap times.

International

If you are thinking of traveling international with your baby, what a great experience!  You will need to get him his very own little passport.  Well, it is not little, it is the same size, but you definitely need this if you are taking him abroad.  Typically airlines do not require children under two years of age to have a seat (which means he is sitting on your lap).  Baby wearing would be a great thing to do for international travel if you have not started to wear yet.  It leaves you hands-free while your baby is still close to you, exactly where he loves to be.

Lake House

Maybe it was because I grew up near the White Mountains, but there is something peaceful about taking a vacation on a lake house.  I never actually had the chance, but life isn’t over yet!  There are so many homes on lakes that are owned for the purpose of renting out for weeks at a time.  Picture it: you are sitting on the front porch swing, overlooking the peaceful lake, cold glass of lemonade sitting next to the book you are ready to pick up once your baby goes to sleep after rocking him into a good nap.  After dinner, you can take a stroll down by the water or into town.  A lake house just makes you feel at home.

Many first time parents feel as if once they have their baby, the fun and travel stops.  So you can’t just pack and go, you have a little more to think about when you travel with a baby, but it doesn’t mean you have to stay at home.  Think of all the great memories you are creating!  Your child won’t remember, but you will, and maybe the chosen destination can become a tradition!

  1. We always took the babies when we traveled, even internationally, and it was always wonderful. Like you said, they don’t remember some of the places they’ve been, but we do and if we liked the place enough, the children not remembering gives us a good excuse to go back when they get older. ;)

  2. These are all great places to take baby on vacation. Just always make sure you have baby essentials covered and you’ll be good to go!

  3. These are all wonderful ideas for vacations with baby. The nicest part is discovering the wide world with mom close at hand. Relaxation is a great part of any holiday.

  4. Love these! All are baby friendly and I love that! My kiddos go everywhere with us so this is all perfect!

  5. Love the White Mountains. I have some recent pics on my site of different write ups I did in our travels. Great tips – thanks for sharing!

  6. My second home growing up was a lake house – I’d go for that one!! Your’re right – it’s very peaceful and I can’t wait to go tomorrow – same house!!

  7. We just took my new granddaughter to the beach this year. We bought a sun tent so she could stay inside it and be protected from the sand, sun, and wind.

  8. These are all so helpful! I finally got more adventures about traveling when my second was born, and traveling with a baby is really a blast!

I think anything can be baby friendly if you are prepared. My kids have been traveling since they were under a year :)
