With summer vacation season rapidly approaching, it’s time to start planning your family’s getaway! Canada is filled with gorgeous family vacation destinations, including its prettiest province of all: Prince Edward Island.
This summer, skip the loud theme parks and crowded cities. Instead, take a REAL vacation in tranquility! While Prince Edward Island is best known for its pristine beaches, scrumptious lobster and challenging golf courses, there’s so much more to do there. With great food, culture and scenery, there’s really something for everyone! Take a look at my dream itinerary for a visit to Prince Edward Island!
Fun Family Vacation on Prince Edward Island

Anne of Green Gables tour: A must-visit for any book lover! I remember reading Anne of Green Gables as a child! A trip to Avonlea Village in Cavendish is an absolute must! I’d also love to see the Anne of Green Gables Museum at Silver Bush!
Shining Waters Family Fun Park: While I prefer to spend the majority of my family vacations exploring the cultural side of my destination, sometimes you have to throw in a little theme park fun for the kids. With 36 acres and 40 different attractions, Shining Waters Family Fun Park definitely puts the emphasis on FUN!
Craft shopping: I love buying handmade items from the places I visit. I feel like it’s a more authentic keepsake. Prince Edward Island has dozens of little shops specializing in handmade goods from the Islanders. In fact the Tourism PEI website has entire itineraries dedicated to helping you get the most out of your craft and antique shopping!
Confederation Trail: Family vacations are the perfect time to get active and adventurous! Did you know that Prince Edward Island was the first province to complete its section of the TransCanada Trail? Now, you can bike or walk along the section, passing the shore, farms and small communities on your journey. Do a small section or plan a huge journey and go for the full 274 kilometers! Me? I’d go with a smaller section. I’m adventurous, but not THAT adventurous!

Points East Coastal Drive: There are so many fun things to do on this drive. I’d love to try finding starfish while walking the beach from Basin head to Bothwell! I’m also intrigued by the Greenwich dunes and floating boardwalk!
As for the best places to get authentic Prince Edward Island cuisine, I’m going to rely on “Ask an Islander” at the Tourism PEI Website for that! After all, no one knows where to get the best food better than someone who actually lives there! If you have ANY questions or want to know more about an attraction, they’re the best people to ask! Follow #AskAnIslander and #PEI on Twitter for more helpful info about PEI!

I love Canada, but that might be partly because I live in northern Michigan, so it’s kind of like Canada anyway! :p
Thanks for this post! We’ve always wanted to visit Canda but were never really sure where to go.
I visited Prince Edward Island many times in the past and it’s one of my most favourite places on earth! I hope to visit there again some day in the next couple years!

PEI is such a beautiful place to go to. I got to go on a vacation to PEI with my parents as a child. I still remember how red the sand was.
I’ve never seen a live starfish in person. That’d be one of the first things I’d seek out.
I am thankful that I live an hour in two different directions to visit Canada. One, through Port Huron, MI heads right into beautiful Sarnia, ON and then through Detroit which heads into Windsor. Canada is beautiful and I have found the people to be friendly and warm. I think everyone should visit if they get a chance. there is so much more I want to see there!
Ahhhhh I have literally been everywhere in Canada but not Prince Edward Island! I really should fix that and have cananada completely checked off my travel bucket list!

I would love to go just to see the Anne of Green Gables Tour. My grandparents went last year and their pictures brought back sooo many memories. That was my favorite book as a child. and my grandmother used to read it outloud to me every year when I came to visit.
I’m embarrassed to say that I have’t traveled much within Canada! While most of my friends prefer going out West, I instead, would love to go out East! There’s just something so unique and magical about it!
I have never been to this part of Canada, so I would love to get up there someday. It’s only a few hours from me, so I have no reason not to.
I have always wanted to visit PEI! I would love to see the Anne of Green Gables area!
I grew up in New Hampshire. We went to PEI at least once during the summer and spent a lot of time in Halifax as well. I am totally blanking out on the name, but there’s a cool festival there with lots of local food and vendors every year too- very special memories of this place!
I would love to visit PEI and it is on my bucket list of places to see. it is just breathtaking. Thank you for sharing.

I would definitely have the Anne of Green Gables tour on my list! I have wanted to visit since I first read the book as a young girl. That would be such a fun trip! I wish we could go, but it’s quite far.
Prince Edwards Island is amazing. My daughter goes once a year its the one place they go to year after year. I did not realize they had so much. I love craft shopping and little stores like that. Next time they invite me I am definitely saying yes. Thank you for sharing. It really is beautiful.
