With summer vacation season rapidly approaching, it’s time to start planning your family’s getaway! Canada is filled with gorgeous family vacation destinations, including its prettiest province of all: Prince Edward Island.

This summer, skip the loud theme parks and crowded cities. Instead, take a REAL vacation in tranquility! While Prince Edward Island is best known for its pristine beaches, scrumptious lobster and challenging golf courses, there’s so much more to do there. With great food, culture and scenery, there’s really something for everyone! Take a look at my dream itinerary for a visit to Prince Edward Island!

Anne of Green Gables tour: A must-visit for any book lover! I remember reading Anne of Green Gables as a child! A trip to Avonlea Village in Cavendish is an absolute must! I’d also love to see the Anne of Green Gables Museum at Silver Bush!

Shining Waters Family Fun Park: While I prefer to spend the majority of my family vacations exploring the cultural side of my destination, sometimes you have to throw in a little theme park fun for the kids. With 36 acres and 40 different attractions, Shining Waters Family Fun Park definitely puts the emphasis on FUN!

Craft shopping: I love buying handmade items from the places I visit. I feel like it’s a more authentic keepsake. Prince Edward Island has dozens of little shops specializing in handmade goods from the Islanders. In fact the Tourism PEI website has entire itineraries dedicated to helping you get the most out of your craft and antique shopping!

Confederation Trail: Family vacations are the perfect time to get active and adventurous! Did you know that Prince Edward Island was the first province to complete its section of the TransCanada Trail? Now, you can bike or walk along the section, passing the shore, farms and small communities on your journey. Do a small section or plan a huge journey and go for the full 274 kilometers! Me? I’d go with a smaller section. I’m adventurous, but not THAT adventurous!

Points East Coastal Drive: There are so many fun things to do on this drive. I’d love to try finding starfish while walking the beach from Basin head to Bothwell! I’m also intrigued by the Greenwich dunes and floating boardwalk!

As for the best places to get authentic Prince Edward Island cuisine, I’m going to rely on “Ask an Islander” at the Tourism PEI Website for that! After all, no one knows where to get the best food better than someone who actually lives there! If you have ANY questions or want to know more about an attraction, they’re the best people to ask! I have never been to this part of Canada, so I would love to get up there someday. It’s only a few hours from me, so I have no reason not to.

  15. I grew up in New Hampshire. We went to PEI at least once during the summer and spent a lot of time in Halifax as well. I am totally blanking out on the name, but there’s a cool festival there with lots of local food and vendors every year too- very special memories of this place!
