Massachusetts has it all for family travel

I’ve been to Massachusetts several times throughout my life. I took my first trip the summer before my senior year in high school. A couple friends and I stayed in a trailer on a campground. During my senior year, we took a class trip to Boston and surrounding areas for our final trip together. I also lived in Maine for about a year, so I took many trips in Boston, Salem and other parts of Massachusetts for fun. It is one of my favorite places to visit and I’m looking forward to taking my son one day.

One thing I absolutely love about Massachusetts is that it really does have something for everyone. If you love the beach, you can head to the coast or one of the gorgeous islands. My favorite is Nantucket because it’s so incredibly charming. With over 1,500 miles of seacoast, you’ll have plenty of opportunities to hit the beach. The coast of Massachusetts is so neat, too, because you have sandy beaches in some areas, rocky beaches in others and plenty of lighthouses for amazing photo opportunities.

History buffs can’t get more historical than the first spot where the Pilgrims stepped foot onto the New World! With 100s of years of history, Massachusetts offers terrific educational family travel experiences. The diverse arts and cultures of the vibrant cities throughout the state offer even more learning experiences for your entire family.

During your exploration of Massachusetts, you’re going to need to eat, right? Well, you’re in luck because the state is home to some of the most unforgettable dining experiences! Visit the Massachusetts Vacation blog to read up on all the other great events and destinations Mass has to offer.

My favorite Mass Memories

Throughout all my trips to Massachusetts, there are a few memories that really stand out. My top favorite Mass memories include:

  • Touring Salem with my good friends during my trip before my senior year. I’ve always felt connected to the story of the Salem witch trials. Seeing the place where it happened, and how the town has honored those tragic events while at the same time bringing a positive vibe to the area is just such an experience. The cobblestone streets and the overall atmosphere is something everyone should experience. Seeing the House of Seven Gables in person is also a must for your itinerary!

  • Visiting Harvard University with my class trip. Harvard is just such a cool place to visit. Our class trip arranged a visit to show us the world-renowned academia in Massachusetts. They have an amazing book store! In fact, it’s so amazing that I almost missed the bus back to the hotel because I was lost in the stacks! My favorite memory, though, is when my friend Tai hopped up on the statue’s lap!

  • Seeing the Boston Red Sox. While I’m not a huge baseball fan, being in Fenway Park and seeing the Boston Red Sox with all my closest friends during our class trip was definitely unforgettable. Boston has some rich traditions when it comes to their sports, and it was just so cool to be part of that.

  • Driving around the back country roads. My ex-husband and I used to hop in the car and just see where we ended up. While most of my trips to Massachusetts focused on Boston, Salem and surrounding areas, we found some really neat old cemeteries and less crowded historical sites by just driving.

Whether you spend time in the city, country or both, Massachusetts is the place to make family travel memories.
