Family vacations can get expensive, especially if you want to travel to a place like Riviera Maya in Mexico.  All inclusive resorts is the way to go for cheap family vacations that don’t FEEL cheap!  But what does all inclusive mean exactly?  In general, it means all of your food and drinks are covered when you book your room.  Sometimes this includes alcohol and sometimes it does not.  Some resorts also include some amenities (such as sailing or snorkeling) in their all inclusive packages.  If your destination is the Riviera Maya, here are some all inclusive resorts to check out!

Bluebay Grande Esmeralda: There are 979 guest rooms here and each one comes with a view of the garden or ocean or you can choose a swim up suite (and why wouldn’t you!)  All rooms are air conditioned and come with ceiling fans and most have a balcony or a patio so you can enjoy the cool ocean breeze at night.  You have a choice of one king bed or two double beds for each category of room.  Some reviews say the ocean is a bit rocky, but you can avoid that by enjoying the two giant pools!

Grand Bahia Principe Coba - Riviera Maya Resorts and Waterpark
Grand Bahia Principe Coba

Grand Bahia Principe Coba: Each of the 1080 rooms has either a private balcony or terrace.  There are two types of rooms to choose from, which doesnt really seem to matter much because they are both considered suites.  Your choices are either a Junior Suite Superior or a Junior Suite Deluxe.  The deluxe room has either a king bed or two double beds, where the superior suite offers either a king or two full sized beds. This resort seems to offer many amenities from tour assistance and volleyball to scuba lessons and windsurfing, just to name a few. Check out all the Bahia Principe Hotels for more info.

Viva Wyndham Azteca: On the smaller side with 335 rooms, you can choose either ocean view or garden view, but both come with a furnished private balcony.  That is my kind of resort!  I love me some privacy away from the busy resort.  Some amenities they offer are tennis courts, water polo, sailing and snorkeling for starters.  You can start your day with a little yoga as well before heading out for some fun activities!  End your active day with some nightly entertainment or head over to the lounge and relax.

Dreams Puerto Aventuras Resort & Spa: Like all the cheap family vacation ideas above, each room comes with a balcony or patio and they restock your mini fridge daily!  You can choose from many different rooms such as the Deluxe Garden View, Deluxe Pool View, Family Garden View, or Deluxe Ocean or Dolphin View.   Dreams also has a ‘Deal of the Day Room’ which is non-refundable, but you get it at a huge savings.  So I suggest you only go with this deal if you know you are for sure able to go for the dates you book.  I might book my next vacation here if for no other reason than the ocean trampoline!  Some other things to take advantage of are catamarans, dance classes, euro-bungee or even intro scuba lessons.
This list makes me want to book my next vacation!  When looking into all inclusive resorts, they will list what is included and what is an extra.  Generally, you shouldn’t have to pay for anything once you get there.

  1. This post oculdn’t have come at a better time for me! We are currently on the hunt for some really great ‘all inclusive’ getaways that are family friendly. Thanks so much for giving such a great resource for just that.

  2. I am bookmarking this! My son has never been to Mexico and we are looking for an all-inclusive. Especially since we will be traveling on a budget

  3. I would absolutely love o vacation in Rivera Maya, I was thinking about going there with my family and then I got pregnant a few years ago. My husband and I loved Mexico so I will defintely keep this list in mind. Although I don’t always like the food and get sick of the food at all-inclusive resorts i think it’s great to have that option especially if traveling on a budget.

It looks like such a beautiful place, I’d love to visit with my family. We actually did look up a family holiday to Mexico from Ireland but it was quite expensive so it’s great to know there are cheaper alternatives available. The swimming with dolphins would be an absolute dream!

  5. The only experience we have with something approaching all-inclusive is WDW with the dining plan, etc. It looks like a really good idea for an active family. I will have to look into things more closely. When we are travelling with our little one with dairy allergies the food is always a challenge.

  6. Thank you for sharing this post! We are planning to go South in the fall but we weren’t sure where to go yet. This really helps to see what some of the all-inclusive options are (in my opinion, all-inclusive is the only way to go)!

  7. Cheap is my middle name. I don’t want too cheap of things because I need quality but if it’s great quality and fits my budget then I am all there. I need a resort type of vacation for a week because a few days just won’t do.

  8. All inclusive and cheap caught my eye right away. I hadn’t been to Mexico in quite some time and I’ve never been to Riviera Maya, only Cancun, Cozumel, and Playa de Carmen. The Superior Suite at the Grand Bahia would suit my husband and I just fine. I like a lot of space, a king bed, but the food (within the all inclusive package) is what we’d love.

  9. This is great information, I can see me sharing this information with my friends as we plan our annual girls trip. The idea of not having to worry about food or drinks takes some pressure off of you when you are trying to prepare a budget. I also like the idea some resorts have outside activities, again take the budget pressure off of you.

  10. I have actually never been to an all inclusive resort. I’ve heard they’re awesome to go to, especially if you have kids. We’ve been wanting to book a family vacation so I’ll have to check out some of these resorts. I love that the rooms come with patios and it seems like they all have a lot of great activities.

  11. I am definitely bookmarking your post! My family and I love all-inclusive vacations and have visited Cabo San Lucas a couple of times. We were wondering about Riviera Maya and your post has a great selection of the all-inclusive resorts we can use in our research. We are definitely a family who loves getting our money’s worth. Thanks for sharing!
