Awesome Microwave Hacks to Save Time

Soften Brown Sugar: Don’t you hate when you get rock-solid clumps in the box? Here is a tip, microwave brown sugar covered with a damp towel and just like magic: it is sugar again!

Dry Fresh Herbs: A great way to preserve all your fresh herbs from your garden or supermarket, turns out if you microwave them for a few seconds, they dry out quickly.

Scrambled Eggs: It’s easy, just beat your eggs, add your cheese and milk to the bowl and microwave for a minute and 30 seconds. Don’t forget to stir 45 seconds in.

De-sog A Sandwich: I hate having to waste a good sandwich because of the sogginess but here is an awesome hack to not have to. Wrap your sandwich in a piece of paper towel and place in the microwave. Heat it quickly to help remove the moisture from your sandwich.

Cook a Fish: I know it doesn’t sound like the best idea but many people have done it say it works. All you have to do is dry the fish well, overlap the thin ends of the fillets so they can cook evenly, and then take out the fish before it is fully cooked. It will continue to heat up once it is removed from the microwave.

Chopped Onions: Don’t cry no more. Here is a hack to no more tears while chopping your onions. Just cut off both ends and place the onion in the microwave for 30 seconds.

Crunchy Chips: Want to put the crunch back into your stale chips? Well look no further. Place your stale chips on a towel in the microwave and heat. This will soak up any moisture and get those chips nice ‘n crunchy again.

Clean your Microwave: When things explode, it is hard to scrub off. If that is the case with you simply put a bowl of water and a little vinegar inside. Run it for five minutes and any stains will easily wipe away. It will look like a brand new microwave.

DIY Heating Pad: Need to make a heating pad quickly? Grab a long CLEAN sock (emphasis on the clean!), preferably all cotton. Your basic tube sock will do nicely. Next, fill the sock about halfway full with uncooked rice (regular rice, not the minute stuff). Tie off the top of the sock nice and tight, then toss it in the microwave for about 45 seconds to a minute. The rice conforms perfect to the spot you need to soothe. This is especially great for an earache, carpal tunnel or other small areas. You can reheat the sock over and over.

See, your microwave is useful for so much more than just heating up leftovers! It’s a great time-saver and, in some cases, even a great money-saver!

  1. I use Bleach for the microwave clean, but that is effective. And I’m always using the microwave to save a sandwich. All excellent tips!
