Decorations

You can use minimal decorations for a Super Bowl party, or you can go all out and turn your home into a stadium of pigskin paraphernalia. Check local party supply stores or dollar stores for football and sports decorations that you can put up and save to use again another time. Look for garlands, streamers, centerpieces, even cups, plates, and napkins that all have a football theme.

Check local thrift stores for toy footballs or look for miniature footballs at the dollar stores. If you can find small 1-3 inch size squishy footballs, provide plenty of them so guests can do their own touchdown smash and dance as they are watching the game. Use decorative bowls for these little footballs so they are handy for anyone who wants to grab one.

Food

Aside from the big game, food is the main event for any Super Bowl gathering. Be sure to have a large variety and plenty of everything. You can opt for a whole host of finger foods that guests can graze on and carry around or you can also provide a bit more filling dishes like ribs, barbecue, hot dogs and brats, burgers, steaks, and the like.

When choosing your menu, be sure to include plenty of assorted foods. Some other great choices are fruit and veggie trays, nachos and guacamole, various chips and dips, cheese balls and crackers, popcorn.

For drinks, use large coolers filled with ice to stash cans and bottles for chilling. If you will be having alcoholic drinks available, be sure to keep a separate cooler for those — especially if there will be kids at your party. You want to make sure that you keep a separate cooler for soft drinks and one for the harder drinks.

Other Activities

The big game is THE big activity for the evening, but there will be some lulls here and there in which you may want to throw in a few other activities. Twister is a great party game that is plenty of fun for all ages. Charades, Pictionary, and trivia are some other excellent options for your party.

Encourage guests to wear their favorite team jerseys or gear to the party. It doesn’t matter if they’re a fan of one team or the other — you can celebrate at a Super Bowl party without being a fan of either team playing.

A Super Bowl party can be one of the highlights of a cold and dreary winter. Plan accordingly for your own blowout and throw a party that will memorable for all of your guests.

  2. This year all I have to do is show up at the Super Bowl party! I’m loving the stress-free planning. I need to pass these ideas along to our tailgating host.

  3. Great ideas! We usually go to my inlaws but this year the party is at our house. I never put much effort into it since I’m not a football fan , but you’ve got some great ideas here that I just might try. Thanks for sharing!

  4. These are great ideas. When we have people over for games, we always use coolers with ice in them. It’s a great way to make it easy to snag drinks, and it just feels so much more footbally.

  5. I’m all about the food! It’s especially nice when it’s something new that I haven’t tried like that Southwest recipe that you linked.

  7. Hi Rodney,

Thanks for sharing these idea. We typically serve wings or the hubs will throw some steaks on the grill. As long as I don’t have to do a lot of cooking I’m good with whatever. :).

Thanks for sharing these ideas and those snack mix looks delish!
