When you suffer from conditions such as arthritis or carpal tunnel, repetitive motions can cause quite a bit of pain. Too often, people dealing with such issues feel like they have to give up the things they love in order to escape the pain. Gardening, for example, is such a relaxing activity! Yet the repetitive motions involved in planting, pruning and weeding can be enough to bring tears to your eyes! That’s just from working with tiny plants! If you’re trying to prune trees and bushes, it can be even more difficult.

Fiskars PowerGear garden tools have a fantastic solution. Their tools are made to be used with ease. In fact, they are the only pruning tool to earn the Ease-of-Use Commendation from the Arthritis Foundation. This means you can use the tools to create beautiful shrubbery without dealing with the extreme pain that comes from overusing your hands or having to exert so much pressure squeezing other pruning tools.

I’ve used those other pruning tools in the past. While I’m not exactly handy in the garden, I do have large bushes outside my home that can grow out of control without a little care! I don’t have arthritis, but I do suffer from weak wrists. In fact, I’m pretty sure I’ve developed carpal tunnel somewhere along the way in my writing career. Plus, let’s face it; I’m a bit of a weakling! I can barely hold onto large, heavy pruning tools, let alone effectively use them without making all sorts of awkward movements.

What makes Fiskars PowerGear Garden Tools Different?

Fiskars PowerGear Garden Tools use patented technology to make gardening easier on your hands.

Unlike traditional pruning tools, Fiskars PowerGear garden tools use a patented gearing technology that gives you far more leverage and up to three times more cutting power. What does that mean? Well, basically, those special gears do all the heavy lifting for you! Rather than clip, clip, clipping away at a single branch, just waiting for it to break off, Fiskars PowerGear garden tools snap through in one smooth motion. Plus- and this is a major plus for weaklings like me- since the gears do the majority of the work, the tools can be lighter! Light enough for even someone like me to maneuver when reaching for that tall branch. Did I mention I’m also short? Basically, everything is a tall branch for me, so this is a major plus!

Types of tools in the Fiskars PowerGear Family

Tools in the Fiskars PowerGear family.

There are ten different varieties of tools in the Fiskars PowerGear family to make your pruning and cutting easier. These include:

  • PowerGear Hedge Shears with shock-absorbing bumpers to prevent that jarring sensation at the end of the cut.
  • PowerGear Pruners in several sizes for that up-close pruning work. The handles are designed to fit your hand’s natural curves for increased comfort.
  • Power Gear Loppers in different lengths, so you can reach and snap through those thicker, more stubborn branches with ease.
  • Power Gear Super Pruner/Loper, a great two-in-one tool that gets through those thick branches both up close and a little further away.

All the PowerGear pruning tools are made with fully-hardened steel blades that stay sharp through heavy use. Why is this important? Because dull blades make it much more difficult to cut through thick branches and this means more stress on your hands and arms. The blades are also coated with special coating so to help avoid rust.

About the Ease-of-Use Commendation

The Ease-of-Use Commendation is a rather prestigious designation for gardening tools, or any tools for that matter. The Arthritis Foundation uses both experts and actual people with arthritis to test the products submitted for their commendation. After scientists assign a pass or fail grade based on certain criteria, the passing product is put through numerous tasks to evaluate its ease of use. Everything from how easy it is to open the package to how the tool can be used in daily tasks is evaluated. Once the product passes through the first two stages, it is given to a team of eight testers with moderate to severe arthritis. If no more than one of the eight has difficulties with the product, it earns the commendation.

Fiskars PowerGear gardening tools made it through all three stages, earning it the special commendation. Remember, they’re the only pruning tools to make it! Pain shouldn’t keep you from doing something you enjoy. With Fiskars PowerGear tools, it no longer has to.

  1. I had NO idea Fiskars carried tools for the outdoors!
I love that they have the padded handles and their patent pending gearing technology to make it easier on you when you have to do all that cutting/pruning.
    Thanks for sharing(:

  2. Those look really professional and high quality! Our old ones are really dull and we need new ones so thanks for the info!

  3. I have so much yard work that needs to be done. I didn’t realize Fiskars made gardening tools. I am going to keep an eye out for them!

  4. I usually defer to my husband and teenaged son when it comes to yard work as some of those tools are hard to use. These Fiskars look awesome and might even allow me to help out!

  5. Oh I am in need of some Fiskars garden tools! We have regular pruning sheers, but with my carpal tunnel, I can’t get them to cut anything. My hands are too weak. I love the gear feature of these!

  6. We need to try these tools because it is so hot and humid here in Dallas that everything in our yard is growing extremely fast!

  7. I just told my husband the other day that we need to do some branch trimming. They are starting to overshadow my garden beds and are blocking the sun. These would be helpful!
