When thinking of spring crafts, the first thing that comes to mind is cute stuff for the house or kids.  Why not think of something fun for yourself instead?  Our DIY Fabric Fashion Necklace is an easy, no sew craft and it is a great accessory for your spring and summer wardrobe!  This fabric necklace is quick and inexpensive and can be made in fabrics for every outfit and occasion whether dressy or casual!

Spring Crafts – DIY Fabric Fashion Necklace

Supplies:

  • 2 strips of fabric approximately 2″-2 1/2″ wide and 21″ long
  • 1 spool of thin ribbon to coordinate
  • 12 medium wooden beads
  • 1 wooden ring
  • scissors

Instructions for this spring craft

Step 1

Bring one end of your first fabric strip through the wooden ring.  Fold over approximately 2″.  Tie a knot in the fabric as tight to the wooden ring as possible.  Both the long piece of fabric and the 2″ overlap should be knotted.

Step 2

Place a wooden bead inside the fabric strip and wrap the fabric around it.  Tie a knot above the bead, as tight to it as possible.

Step 3

Thread a wooded bead onto the fabric strip and pull it down to meat the knot.  Tie another knot above the bead, again as tight to the bead as possible.

Step 4

Repeat steps 2 & 3 until you’ve nearly reached the end of the fabric.

Step 5

Cut a length of thin ribbon, approximately 10″ long, and place it inside the end of the fabric strip.  Wrap the fabric strip around the ribbon and tie a knot in the strip to secure it and end the first side of the necklace.

Step 6

Repeat Steps 1-5 with the second fabric strip to create the second side of the necklace.

Step 7

Carefully trim any threads that have come lose from the fabric.  Remember that this is a no sew project and the frayed edges of the fabric are part of the style of this necklace.

Once you’re finished, the two ribbons are tied together behind your neck.  The ribbon tie allows flexibility for wearing the necklace longer or shorter depending on your shirt or dress.  You could easily substitute the wooden ring with a wooden bead or add buttons, fabric flowers, or so many other embellishments to a necklace like this.

Love how you can make so many the same but with different fabric to match different outfits! I use to do a lot of bead and gem necklaces and bracelets in college, I love the look with fabric!
