Inspire Creative Play with an Easy Mask Craft for Kids

Looking for an easy summer craft for kids that also encourages imagination beyond the crafting table? Check out this fun mask craft for kids!

With school out for summer, I’m always looking for ways to keep my daughter occupied while I work from home. She loves getting creative, so I thought this mask craft for kids would be perfect for her! It’s so easy to make and doesn’t require a ton of supplies, which means I don’t need to make a special trip to the craft store. Plus, this summer craft for kids will encourage her to put on her own little shows after she makes the mask! I love crafts that encourage imagination and take the creativity further than the crafting table!

This particular mask craft for kids was inspired by this Ninja Turtles Paper Plate Mask craft, found on Pinterest (the best place for inspiration!). Of course, my daughter loves putting her own unique spin on things, so she decided to completely change the face to create something a little more unique. I think it looks a bit like Gonzo from the Muppet Show. What do you think? Let’s see how easy it is to make!

How to Make this Summer Craft for Kids

Looking for an easy summer craft for kids that also encourages imagination beyond the crafting table? Check out this fun mask craft for kids!

  • Start by coloring the paper plate in the desired colors. Crayons or a fat-tipped marker are easiest for this task.
  • Cut out half of an oval shape from black construction paper for the mouth.
  • Cut a white rectangle and draw your teeth, then glue it to the front of the mouth. Glue the mouth to the plate.
  • Cut out a long, tapering nose shape, as seen in the picture. Fold it back and forth fan style to create the springy fan effect. Glue it down to the plate above the mouth.
  • Next, cut two white circles and glue them for the eyes, then color in the black circles in middle.

That’s it! Your easy mask craft for kids is done! If you want, you can either punch holes in the side and tie a string through so kids can wear it or glue a stick to the base so kids can make a puppet show with it. Encourage your child to make more masks with different faces, then come up with a family story for a fun indoor activity!
