By the time we’re done, you’re going to have one fantastic autumn place setting!
Funny story: I rarely use place mats. I’m not that put together. I’m organized when it comes to finances, etc. but anything outside of that is given little attention. Don’t get me wrong; my house stays spotless because I’m a perfectionist about it, but I feel like place mats are just another thing I need to clean, so I usually skip them altogether.
However, I felt that this holiday season deserved an extra touch to celebrate our new house my husband, and I just bought. I’m excited to get the kitchen setup and get the table decorated. In my early searching (I couldn’t wait, so I started searching before we even signed for the house) I couldn’t find any place mats I genuinely liked so, of course, I came up with my own. You’ll love how easy it is to make! Don’t forget to print out the instruction card for later!

Items Needed:
- Small Wooden Square
- Fall Foliage
- Glue Gun
- Scissors
Directions:
- Begin by taking your fall foliage and laying it across the top portion of the wood. Cut a piece that stretches from end to end at the top and then a second piece from top to bottom on the left side. (I got all my items at Walmart in the craft area, and they didn’t break the bank!)
- With your glue gun, begin by gluing the tip of your side pieces, starting at the bottom. Take your time placing it along the edge because the foliage can get annoying with its crazy bends.
- Once the foliage is on there, you will want to position your leaves, so they’re not crazy looking and place glue on the under portion of the leaves and glue them in your desired spots.
- Repeat steps 2 and 3 for the top portion.

Isn’t it gorgeous? Your guests will think that you either spent a fortune or took hours to put it together. A few hints: if you can’t find a white square like I did, you can always get a wooden one and spray paint it. Or, of course, you can leave it with the rustic wood look. Also, if fall foliage is in short supply in your area, go with fake leaves. This is a good idea if you want to keep the placemats year after year (or if you’re making it way ahead of time, as foliage does tend to wilt after a while).
Don’t forget to come back next week! We’ll show you how to make a gorgeous holder for your silverware! In the meantime, check out the Fall DIY Mason Jars drinking glasses again (in case you missed it):
