Think signing up for more than one baby registry is a brilliant idea? Think again! Check out 5 crucial reasons why you only need ONE registry!

Think signing up for more than one baby registry is a brilliant idea? Think again! Before you go registry crazy and hit the sign-up button at 20 different stores, check out a few reasons why you only need ONE, and why that one should be the Target Baby Registry.

I get it. You’re over-the-moon excited about your pending arrival, you’re counting down the days to your baby shower and you just can’t stop oohing and ahhing over baby things.  You want to make it as easy as possible for everyone from your grandmother to your great aunt Petunia to get you the things you really need, so you think “I’ll just make a registry at every store and they can pick their favorite place to shop!”

That’s a great idea…if you want 500 receiving blankets and nothing else. Creating multiple registries may seem like it will make life easier for all your guests, but the truth it, it just complicates things.

Why shouldn’t you create multiple baby registries?

1- It’s incredibly time-consuming

I know it seems like you have nothing but time as you wait for your baby to arrive, but trust me, your due date comes faster than you could ever imagine. In my case, I didn’t even have the full nine months since my son arrived two months ahead of schedule. Creating multiple registries requires extreme organization, a ton of lists, and hours cross-checking to make sure you didn’t forget anything.

With the Target Baby Registry, on the other hand, you don’t have to make your own lists and spend hours cross-checking them. You’ll have access to all the lists you could possibly need! Their handy checklist lets you cross off things you already have and makes sure you don’t forget about the things you may not have even thought you’d need! They even preload a few must-have items to your registry, like Pampers diapers! Use all the time you save to bank some extra hours of sleep before your baby arrives!

2- It confuses your guests

If you send out a shower invite that says you’re registered at Target, Babies O Rama, Babies Babies Babies, and so on, do you know what’s going to happen? Your guests will go into information overload and just buy you a receiving blanket (which, FYI, is everyone’s default baby shower gift!). Trust me, NONE of your guests are going to cross-check other registries. Would YOU open ten browser windows and scan through that many lists just to buy one baby gift?

3-It almost guarantees hurt feelings

Imagine how Aunt Petunia would feel if she saved up for months to buy you the cool stroller that you wanted, only to see that Aunt Daisy gave you the same gift from another store.  Aunt Petunia will tell you it’s no big deal, hand you the receipt, and tell you to return it, but secretly, her heart is a little broken.

Meanwhile, Aunt Iris is over in the other corner feeling bad because both Petunia and Daisy got you something big while she could only afford a small gift. If you were using the Target Baby Registry, all your aunts could have gotten together to contribute to one large gift and no one would feel hurt or left out since you don’t see the amount each aunt contributed.

4-  It makes returns crazy hard!

Do you REALLY want to spend the last weeks of your pregnancy running around to 7 different stores trying to return all those receiving blankets? Or worse, lugging boxes to the post office and standing in line for an hour to ship things back to an online-only retailer? Trust me, the answer is NO.

One registry equals one place to return duplicate items to. When it’s the Target Baby Registry, returns are even easier because you have up to a year from the purchase date to get it done. Plus, with the Target Registry, you’ll get a 20% completion discount after baby arrives when you sign up with your Target REDcard, or get 15% discount without.

5- Multiple registries just aren’t necessary with Target’s Universal Registry Button!

If you’re still not convinced that you only need one registry, the Universal Registry option from Target will change your mind! It allows you to add items to your ONE registry from ANY store you can think of. Just drag the bookmarklet to your bookmarks tool bar, then search until your heart’s content.

See something you want on Babies, Babies, Babies? Just click your magic little button and voila! You can even customize the description, category, and so on to make it easier for your shower guests. Guests can choose the item, go to the retailer to buy it, then come right back and mark it as purchased.

Having just one registry makes life easier not just for you, but for your shower guests as well, especially when you make it a Target Baby Registry. Check out all the other amazing benefits of using Target for your registry and you’ll quickly see why it’s the only one you need!

  1. I totally agree! It would make things a whole lot easier if you sign up to one baby registry. I was invited to a baby shower recently and I was happy to see that she was only registered at one location. Having multiple registries is information overload.

  2. I had only one and I can agree with this completely. It is just best to have one list with everything that you want and no one’s feelings get hurt. This is a happy drama free time.

  3. This is something that I’ve never thought about as I dont have kids atm. Do people have more than one? Theyd get spammed. Great post for newbies. Is target USA or something? not heard of it before…

  4. I am guilty of having two registeries when I was pregnant with my youngest son. It was time consuming to run around with the wand and pick out stuff that we wanted. Only to come back a few weeks later to realize that it is no longer in stock. :(

  5. I agree about having one registry. It makes things much simpler this way. Having to many just gets confusing and you may end up with more than one of the same item.

  6. This is a great post about only registering in one place for a baby! I have never had kids but I do love shopping from Target’s baby registry, and I love it even more when I have a Cartwheel coupon for an item!

  7. This is definitely a no-brainer! It would be easier for everyone including the couple if they only had one registry. That’s why it’s important to research and pick the right store for your registry!

  8. Such valid points! It would be sad to have saved up for that one very special gift only to see someone else gave the same. I agree too many registries are time consuming for sure!

  9. I had 2 registries but most of my family and friends primarily purchased from one of them. If you can find everything you want at one registry this is a wonderful idea. Otherwise, you may need to add another.

  10. I couldn’t agree more – I had a friend with two registries and it made it a lot harder for me to purchase for her. I actually strayed away from the registry and she ended up loving what I got her!

I couldn’t agree more. Registries are an awesome way to help get you started in your parenting role, but multiple registries can be counterproductive.

  12. This is something that I’ve never put much thought into. Do people have more than one? I mean, I know some would have one at say Target, and then another at like a Pottery Barn. In this sense, it would make sense to give everyone, depending on their price range to shop at the store they feel most comfortable with spending their money. But, then again in an instance like this, you wouldn’t have the same items on the registry.

  13. What a great idea and great reasons why you should only have one registry. I probably won’t have kids but I will let anyone that is planning to have kids why the one registry is such a good idea.

  14. I agree! Mutiple registries mean you’re running all over the place trying to get it all right. And then people go rogue on you! I’m going to a baby shower in a few weeks, and I am so grateful for one list to shop from.

  15. Cracking up as I do have Aunt Daisy! LOL But let’s not disappoint Aunt Petunia. I have no plans on having kids, can I start a ‘blissfully single and childless’ and plan to keep it that way registry? :-)

  16. It is so hard when there are multiple registries! It is way easier to have just one. It is easier for those buying and the mom to be. I know a lot of moms that want to get everything and think they need to register at multiple stores, but you can really get it all done at Target. They have a great baby selection in store and online.

  17. I get so confused when there are several places an expectant couple has registered. I don’t have time to sort through them all to see what she still needs.

  18. All great tips here. Returns are crazy because there is always someone who doesn’t take it off the registry. It is easier to have everything all at one store and Target does have everything needed for baby!

  19. How awesome you can add everything you need, even from multiple stores to just one registry. I just went to a baby shower last week and felt overwhelmed looking through several registries to find that perfect gift she wanted.

  20. My last child was born almost ten years ago and I created a Target registry for him before my shower. It was easy enough back then and seems to have only improved since that time. So awesome!
