When it comes to movies that depict pregnancy, some will make you laugh until you cry, while others will make you cry until you laugh! Sometimes both! Hey, pregnancy hormones can do weird things to us, right? Either way, all of these movies will definitely leave you feeling enlightened! Now is the best time to treat yourself to a relaxing night on the couch in your favorite jammies. Once your bundle of joy arrives, you won’t have the chance to watch a movie completely uninterrupted for a good 18 years!

1- Where the Heart Is

Where the Heart Is is a 2000 romantic drama movie about Novalee Nation, a young teenager who is pregnant and abandoned by her boyfriend. She makes her home in the middle of Wal-Mart, where she gives birth. With the help of new friends Lexie Coop, Ruth Meyers and Thelma Husband, Novalee makes a new life for herself and her new baby. The movie stars Natalie Portman, Ashley Judd, Joan Cusak and Stockard Channing.

2- Riding in Cars with Boys

Riding in Cars with Boys is a 2001 biographical movie based on the 1992 autobiography, of the same name, by Beverly Donofrio. The movie tells the story of Beverly Donofrio, a teenage mother, who overcomes an array of obstacles and eventually earns her master’s degree. Riding in Cars with Boys stars Drew Barrymore and Sara Gilbert.

3- Juno

Juno is a 2007 comedy drama movie about Juno MacGruff, a young pregnant teenager who makes the decision to place her baby for adoption with a loving couple, Mark and Vanessa Loring. The movie stars Ellen Page, Jason Bateman and Jennifer Garner.

4- Waitress

Waitress is a 2007 comedy drama movie that tells the story of Jenna Hunterson, a waitress in a small town, who is in an abusive marriage. When she discovers she’s pregnant, she doesn’t want the baby, but turns out to be a loving mother to her daughter. The movie stars Keri Russell.

 

5- Baby Mama

If comedy is more your cup of tea, you’ll love Baby Mama! The 2008 romantic comedy movie tells the story of Kate Holbrook, a single career-minded woman, unable to conceive a child on her own, hires free-spirited Angie Ostrowski to be her surrogate mother. Baby Mama stars Tina Fey and Amy Poehler, so you know it’s going to be full of laughs!

6- The Business of Being Born

The Business of Being Born is a 2008 documentary movie that showcases an array of childbirth methods, including Cesarean sections, epidurals, midwives and natural births. This one definitely falls under the “enlightening” category. While we don’t take sides in the midwife versus traditional OB debate, this movie definitely does (and it leans very sharply in the direction of midwives and natural or home births). It’s certainly informative, but take it with a grain of salt and do your own research before letting it sway you in either direction.

7- Away We Go

Away We Go is a 2009 comedy drama movie that tells the story of Verona DeTessant and Burt Farlander, who are expecting their first child. The couple travels cross country in search of the perfect place to raise their baby. The movie stars Maya Rudolph and John Krasinski.

8- Precious

Precious is a 2009 drama movie that is adapted from the 1996 book- Push- by Geoffrey S. Fletcher. It showcases the story of Precious Jones, a young, abused, obese and illiterate teenager, who is pregnant with her 2nd child. She is enrolled in an alternative school, providing her with the chance of starting a new life. Precious stars Gabourey Sidibe.

9- Due Date

Due Date is a 2010 comedy movie about Peter Highman, a successful architect, who is forced to hitch a ride home with Ethan Tremblay, an aspiring actor, so he doesn’t miss the birth of his child. Due Date stars Robert Downey Jr. and Zach Galifianakis.

10- What to Expect When You’re Expecting

What to Expect When You’re Expecting is a 2012 romantic comedy that showcases five women, Jules Baxter, Holly Castillo, Wendy Cooper, Skyler Cooper and Rosie Brennan, as they experience all the highs and lows of pregnancy. The movie stars Cameron Diaz, Jennifer Lopez, Elizabeth Banks, Brooklyn Decker and Anna Kendrick.

 

As you can see, we’ve included a huge mix of comedy and drama, realistic and fantastical. Of all these movies about pregnancy, I’d have to say the first 3 are my favorites! If you only have time for one, definitely make it Where the Heart Is! I think that’s my all-time favorite Natalie Portman movie.

  4. I haven’t seen any of these and hadn’t heard of maybe half. I think the last movie I saw that touched on pregnancy at all was Three Men And A Baby.

  6. I always loved pregnancy movie when I was not pregnant. When I was pregnant I watched a whole lot less.

  7. These are all great movies, I cannot believe I haven’t watched them in so long. I certainly will have to schedule a binge movie night when kids are asleep to check out these movies about pregnancy that will enlighten me!
