The Clock is Ticking–Don’t Wait to Say I Love You

Many people wait for special occasions to say to those that are special in their life the tender words, “I love you.”  Strangely, some men even have trouble telling their wives or girlfriends that they love them.  Have you ever wanted to tell someone such as a close friend, a relative, or just someone you admire and deeply respect that you love them?  Have you hesitated or pulled back thinking it was not the right time to do so?  Or, maybe you are just shy. Tell them today!

Life situations can change, and do change, in an instant.  Last week a close friend of mine suffered a brain aneurysm.  Shortly after arriving at the hospital unconscious she was diagnosed with a ruptured brain aneurysm.  Early this morning, my dear friend died.

Why am I telling you this sad story?  My lovely friend, Jenny, always told her friends that she loved them.  With a big hug and a kiss, accompanied by a great smile, she never hesitated to express her love for her fellowman.  Her passion for life, love for people, and her dedication to God were displayed in every word and deed of her life.  Everybody loved Jenny.

The older I get, the more I am aware of the unpredictability of life itself and how fast circumstances and events can change our lives.  You might think that this is an isolated case that just doesn’t happen. It isn’t.  I personally knew two other people that had ruptured aneurysms.  One successfully lived with an extreme disability while the other person died.  According to brainaneurysm.com , it is estimated that one in 15 people will have an aneurysm in their lifetime.  Only a very small percentage of these though will result in a ruptured aneurysm; and a much smaller percentage will result in death.

There is a strong message here for all of us. Don’t delay in saying “I love you.”  Time is precious. Our friends and those we love are a treasured gift.  Don’t have any regrets that you failed to tell someone you loved them.  Fortunately, I told Jenny I loved her.  I will miss her terribly.  However, hopefully I will carry her passion for living close to my heart and always be able to say with no hesitation “I love you.”  Remember, the clock is still ticking!

  8. So very sorry to hear about your friend, such a terrible thing to have happened. I couldn’t agree with your post more. I am extremely affectionate with people, my kids can’t get away from me without a dozen hugs and kisses. My daughters kindergarten teacher told me she was the most affectionate and loving little girl she had ever met. It made me feel great, because, I knew my actions were rubbing off on her. I tell my close girlfriends I love them on a regular basis too, such a wonderful thing to do :) Following u back from FMBT. Thanks for stopping by my blog, glad to have found you. Your site is amazing, very comprehensive and great for a Mom of four like me!
