University Student Care Package Essentials & Tips for Your Kids

1- They can’t go on a date without clean clothing!

Stain removers, sorting and scooping are not for students. Let’s face it. They’re just looking for an easy solution to the challenge ahead – no clean socks or underwear and they’ve got a date in a few hours. Send them off to school with a container of the new Arm & Hammer™ Plus OxiClean™ 3-In-1 Power Paks. This all-in-one detergent tackles tough stains, doesn’t require any measuring or scooping and is student-budget friendly. If you’re lucky, it may also mean you’re not greeted with a load of dirty laundry every time your kid comes home to visit.

Tip: Don’t be surprised when you receive a call or text saying, “Mom, how do I sort my laundry?” Or “Where do I find the washing instructions?” To help make laundry easier (and prevent shrinking t-shirts and colour bleed disasters at the same time!), educate them on the proper laundry symbols. Check out this fun laundry symbols postcard from Arm & Hammer Laundry that lists the most common symbols and what they mean. Hint: Click on the picture for a larger version that you can print out.

Don’t forget to talk about being safe!

One of the biggest challenges as a parent, is how to talk to your kids about safe sex. While it can be uncomfortable, it’s a necessary conversation and part of life! The harsh reality is that kids are having sex, yet not properly protecting themselves. In fact, a study found that almost two-thirds (64 per cent) of post-secondary students across the country had a sexual encounter within the past year. Furthermore, 72 per cent of students engaged in intercourse during their last sexual encounter, yet only about half (51 per cent) reported using a condom.

Tip: If you have a teen heading off to school, buy condoms for them and pack them in their suitcase. Trojan™ condoms are the number one condom choice of Canadians for protection.

Sometimes, kids know best!

Just because you’re the one who’s prepping the kids for back-to-school, doesn’t mean they can’t teach you a cool thing or two – beauty hacks are no exception! One must-have item that’s as just as popular amongst moms as with students is Batiste Dry Shampoo. It is the world’s #1 dry shampoo* for a reason – it instantly refreshes your hair between washes, no water required.  It works by absorbing excess oil from the roots leaving hair looking clean and fresh.  So, whether you’re running late or just looking for an instant refresh, new Batiste Dry Shampoo Heavenly Volume is a saving grace as it has the additional benefit of transforming hair with gorgeous, touchable volume and bounce. This is one item you won’t forget anytime you’re in a pinch and who knows, you might even find yourself sneaking into her bag to borrow some when you’re out!

  1. I would include basic cleaning supplies, broom, dustpan, mop, pail, all purpose cleaners, disinfecting wipes, hand sanitizer, and things like deodorant, shampoo, conditioner, bodywash, toothbrush, toothpaste, toilet paper, some goodies, towels and face clothes.

  2. I would include shampoo, conditioner, body wash, toothpaste/brush, floss, toilet paper, paper towel, snacks

  3. I would include laundry soap, shampoo, bar of soap, deodorant, brush, tissue, toothpaste, floss, toothbrush, mouth rinse, gum and snacks.

  4. I would include laundry soap, toilet paper (if they were in their own housing), tissues, dental floss, mouth wash, lip balm, hair elastics, and favourite snack foods.

  5. I would include healthy snacks like nuts or granola bars. I would also send tooth care products like a new toothbrush and floss.

  6. I would include: gain pods and dryer sheets, toothpaste/ toothbrush, deoderant, cologne/perfume, hair brush. Planner, locker lock.

  7. I would include snacks, cleaning products, toilet paper, coffee or hot chocolate, and personal items like shampoo and conditioner

  8. I would send zip loc bags, they are useful for so much and the special cookies that he likes. A little money is always welcome.

  9. I would include coffee and tea. I remember how much I needed both when I was in University studying for exams and assignments and the all nighters because of my procrastination lol.

  10. I’ve never heard of a non-stick rolling pin. I think I would pay almost any amount of money for one! I’ll be looking into the T-fal Ingenio Non-Stick Rolling Pin.

  11. My children are adults now but my grandchildren are almost college age. I would include some basic things in a care package like personal care items, a first aid kit, basic over the counter medications. Gift cards would be really appreciated, I know. Since they would be doing their own laundry I would include easy to use pods.

  12. I would include lots of personal items like shampoo, conditioner, deodorant, razors and shave gel.
    Florence Cochrane

  13. Some of the items that i would include are gift cards, phone cards, toothbrush, toothpaste and other toiletries, flashlight, linens, first aid kit, snacks, stationery supplies, laundry detergent, family photos and some cash.

  14. Rosanne Robinson

The items that I would include in a University care package are: a first aid kit, personal care products, vitamins, cleaning products, notebooks, pens, & some cash.

  15. Hygiene kit will always be included. I will include also some medicines. Small notebook and a pen if they feel like sharing their experience and jot it down for remembrance.

  16. I don’t have any teenagers, but these are wonderful ideas for a care package. I’ll definitely have to keep them in mind down the road!

  17. I just set my daughter up with a few of these. I made her take some Oxi Clean to get stains out of her clothing on laundry day. I can’t wait to start sending her care packages.

  18. Speaking of care packages, I need to set up sending my daughter a care package in a few weeks before she starts running out of things. The first year of college is tough enough without having to worry about running out of essentials.

  19. I would include, shampoo, conditoner, hair spray, mouse, tooth brush and paste, soaps, facial cleansers, kleenex and of course some KD

  20. I love the idea of a college care package! Such a great way to make sure young adults have the necessities they need, all while showing them a bit of extra love and thoughtfulness.

  21. We used to do care packages for our daughter her first year in college. Then, it became easier to just send her money every now and then lol. Great suggestions!

  22. Gift cards, and utensils as I know she will be eating a lot of Kraft Dinner and romen noodles while studying in her room.
