The Annual Shrine Circus is one of the largest fraternal events sponsored by the Shriners. Shriners belong to an international fraternity of approximately 340,000 members throughout the United States, Canada, Mexico and Panama. Founded in 1872, the Shriners are best known for their unique parades, distinctive red fez, and their official philanthropy, children’s hospitals. (Source: Shrine Circus).

2013 is a special year for the circus! They are celebrating 250 years!  What a celebration it was!  My family and I were invited to attend the Shrine Circus night in my town! My 12 year-old son was not too keen to go! : It’s for little ones, he said!

So I had a pretty upset teen, a very excited 5 year-old and 2 happy parents who will have a night out: free of cooking AND full of fun!

As part of the VIP Tour, we had the opportunity to take a close look at the elephant: Shelly! It’s the first time in my life I was that close to an elephant! We pet her and took some pictures! I was struck by the roughness of her skin! She even teased us with her trunk. My princess didn’t want to touch but my tween was curious and had a great time with her.

Then we ordered snacks and drinks, while my princess got a face make up!  Kids attending the circus can have it for a modest fee!

Highlights of the Shrine Circus Night! : for every family member

If you think the Shrine Circus is only for little ones, then you are mistaken! It offers family fun for every family member! Here are some highlights from the show

– Elephant ride for little ones! (costs $10). My daughter was happy to take the ride. She was not scared to ride even if she was scared to pet the elephant!

-Tiger show: Impressive how they obey their trainer and perform those fire drills!

– Ladies twisting by their neck: impressive! My son was impressed and me too!

-The boy riding a one wheel bike! and doing all kinds of performances! I challenged my son that he can do so!

I don’t want to spoil the rest! I encourage you to visit and have fun with your family at the SHRINE Circus. They are touring Quebec and Canada!

  1. We are in the U.S. and were able to see the Shrine Circus last year. Our kids are teens but we still all had a great time. The clowns freak me out but everything else was fun, LOL!

  2. I haven’t been to the circus in a very long time. It looks like you had a lot of fun. Love the pictures of the elephant!
