Review: BabbaCo BabbaBox

BabbaCo BabbaBox

If you’re looking for a creative way to keep your children busy on their days off while also giving them a chance to learn a little something in the process, you’ll really enjoy the BabbaCo BabbaBox. The monthly subscription service gives your whole family a chance to learn a new skill, science concept, or social skill every month with a BabbaBox loaded with crafts and other goodies based on a central theme.

The July box focused on Rainbows, and it was jam-packed with fun activities. The BabbaBox included:

  • A bubble tube and pipe cleaners to make rainbow bubble wands.
  • A prism to project rainbows onto your wall.
  • A rainbow sunhat project.
  • A book called “A Rainbow of My Own.”
  • An umbrella, so you can enjoy those after-rain rainbows without getting soaked.

Every activity came with instructions and an explanation of how they work. I loved the inclusion of the umbrella, I thought that was a really nice touch. Plus, we really needed a compact one for the car!

Exploring the Activities

Our absolute favorite activity in the BabbaBox was the Rainbow Sunhat project. This was seriously one of the coolest projects we’ve ever tried! Basically, you take the plain white sunhat, soak it with water (they even included an empty spray bottle!), then tear off pieces of tissue paper and cover the wet hat. As you work, continue to soak the paper. The ink from the tissue paper bleeds through and saturates that hat, dying it in a cool tye-dye pattern.

This is what it looks like when you’re working on the project. I highly suggest putting plastic down under the hat.

The finished product will vary depending on many strips you put on and how long you let it sit. I left it on for a few hours because I wanted a more muted color for my son. The directions do say to leave it on overnight.

We’ve had a lot of rainy days here lately (but alas, no rainbows), so we didn’t have a chance to get the prism to work the way it is intended. You’re supposed to place it on a sunny window and move it until it projects a rainbow onto your wall. We did play with it, noting how the light refracts throughout it and makes internal rainbows.

  1. I like that they are delivered to your home with ALL the physical materials plus know-how content to really engage with your kids

  2. I like how the box has a different theme every month and will include instructions, supplies, a book and even something for the parents! What a joy it would be to see my son receive this on our doorstep :)

  3. I like the idea of each month having a different theme. I know I get stuck on one idea for my kids and it lasts a while, so this makes sure we can mix it up

  4. I love how each box is different and has the different projects to stimulate a childs mind, both learning and fun at the same time.

  5. I like that it includes ALL the supplies you will need! No need to worry if you used the rest of the glue and need to go buy more!

  6. I love that they give you a book with each new box. It’s so nice having a change to read. They seem really amazing!
