Digital Health for Your Child: Keeping All Your Doctors on the Same Page #ThinkDigitalHealth

Learn about how digital health for Canadians can help keep all your family's doctors on the same page, no matter how many specialists you see! It really is Better Health Together!

In many areas of our lives, we deal with one person for one specific need. We call one insurance agency when something happens to our car. One plumber when our pipes freeze. We have our favourite mechanics and banks!

When it comes to healthcare, it is not always as simple as calling one doctor. We have different doctors who help us with different aspects of our care.  For instance, my son is followed by an eye doctor, a pediatrician and a dermatologist. When he was younger, he was seen by a speech therapist, a fine motor skill one.  Each time I had to note down all the medications he was taking, all the health issues he had. Sometimes I forget and I struggle to find the information.  I have always wished for a tool that carried all his medical records.  A tool like Digital Health.

What is Digital Health?

Digital Health is a service that aims to bring healthcare records for Canadians into the modern era. You won’t have to worry about carrying discs and files from one specialist to the next and no more having to tell the same story five times to each new specialist. All of your family’s medical records will be digitized and readily available for any doctor or specialist!

Perhaps you are a parent like me who has to record all the immunizations in a book, the medical history in another. Before I learned about digital health, I assumed I’d be stuck reciting the same pattern of information each and every time we visited the doctors and specialists with my son.  We would see doctors even within the same group and end up having to tell them what we had just told their colleague hours or days before!  It is terribly frustrating and can make an already difficult situation even more upsetting. Digital health makes all of your child’s healthcare records available through digitization. Imagine all of your doctors always having access to the most up to date information!  I won’t need to repeat over and over again.  I would not have to worry again about forgetting.  I would be able to keep up with all of my son’s appointments, doctors, medical files.

National Digital Health Week is a Great Time to Get Educated!

National Digital Health Week runs from November 16th to the 22nd and this is a great time to educate yourself on the topic of digital health. Canada Heath Infoway has a lot of great information on the topic and can help get you started!

Even if your child does not suffer from a chronic condition, or visit many specialists, Digital health can still make a big difference in the way you look at your own healthcare information. With digital health you can see test results as soon as they come back. Blood work and testing results can be viewed online without the hassle of running back into the doctor’s office to get the results of routine testing. Digital health can help you monitor and manage all of your family’s healthcare records which can help you all live a happier and healthier life. Your children’s immunization records, life-long records, and e-booking are just a few of the many benefits of using the digital health system.

I can see how keeping everything together helps. A holistic approach like this always is a good idea toward healing :D

  3. I really think this would be a great way to take advantage of the technology that we have today. It’s really awesome!

This seems like a great way to be rid of the confusion that comes along with having multiple doctors. I will look into it.

  5. Digital Health sounds great. i remember going to the doctor as a child both my mom and granny used to come. i think my granny just liked being that but i know it made things a lot easier for my mom

  6. Totally agree this is a great way to keep everyone up to date. It’s so important to keep all your doctors informed about your family’s health. This is particularly important for moms of multiples like me (I have triplets) to make sure every doctor has all the info on our family members.

  7. As we are getting older **cough** over 40, my hubby and I are starting to need reminders of things. I keep telling him that we need to do something like this. He takes meds, I take meds, we both go to doctors regularly. It is hard to keep up!

  8. I love that technology is making it easier to keep in touch with your doctors, especially for children when they may need constant contact with pediatricians or specialists on a more frequent basis than us adults.

It’s so much easier to stay connected with your doctor these days! It makes it so much easier to get treatment!

  10. I’ve used digital health a few times and it’s such a cool thing! So convenient! I love that you don’t have to leave the comfort of your own home.

  11. This seems like such an easy way to organize health records! I always end up misplacing important files and information, so I feel like this could be very helpful.

  12. This makes so much sense to me and seems so much easier than what I go through with three kids. I have actually taken the wrong kids shot records to the other kids appointment before. Ugh

  13. This sounds pretty awesome. I have 6 kids and it can be hard when a few of them are sick getting them seen. Thankfully it’s rare that they are even sick! I’d love to have all info though in one place, to keep it all handy.

  14. I think going digital is the only way to go. If we are all connected on the medical stuff then my my DR can see everything that happened in the past and know where to go from there as needs be.

  15. I remember having to carry everything with me when my girls were little. With my boys it’s a different story. We have a digital system, but I’ve never used it. I need to be a lot more diligent in these things!
