3 Exciting Ways to Spend Your Extra Day This Leap Year!

Spend your extra leap year day doing something new and exciting with your family! Check out a few of our favorite ideas!

Did you ever think about the oddness of Leap Year? It’s like we couldn’t figure out a logical way to break down time into even chunks, so we decided “let’s toss all the “spare time” into a jar, then spend it at the end of February once every four years!” You know what that means, though, right? It’s literally spare time; something so many of us are lacking in our busy lives. Why not treat it that way? Declare it “try something new” day with your family. Get out there and do something exciting with that whole extra day of time that you only get once a year. After all, you’ve technically been saving up for it for four years!

Thank you to our friends at Church and Dwight for these great ideas! The opinions are our own.

Go snowshoeing: Buy (or rent) a pair of snowshoes, then head to your closest national park or scenic trail. Snowshoes have come a long way from the tennis racket-esque versions you’re probably expecting and are often available to rent from national parks or adventure stores. It’s a great way to get a little exercise with your family and take in the gorgeous scenery.

Build a snow fort: I am horrible at building snow people, but I rock in the snow fort department. Just grab a few quart-size containers from your kitchen, pack them with snow, tip them over and gently pat to make bricks. Pile them up until you have the perfect fort. Even easier: a snow cave! With that, you only need to create a giant mound of snow (you may already have one from shoveling or the plows going by), let it harden, then carve out an entrance. Once you’re in, gently continue hollowing it until you have enough space for the whole family.  If it’s big enough, you can even carve out snow benches inside! Grab your snow pants and chill out – literally – with a cup of hot chocolate to add warmth.

Visit somewhere new: Canada is chalk-full of amazing winter destinations featuring everything from scenic ski resorts to lively festivals. Whether it’s teaching the kids to skate on Ottawa’s Rideau Canal or visiting the Northwest Territories to take in the northern lights, find something your family will enjoy and will remember for years to come. You don’t have to book a flight or take a long car ride to visit a new destination, even if it’s just a cool spot in the town next door, it’s an adventure!

3 Exciting Things to do on Leap Year

Trying to keep up with your kids isn’t always easy – and is often tougher the next day when those aches and pains set in. Topical pain relievers like RUB·A535™ Extra Strength Heating Cream have you covered. It starts to work on contact and provides fast acting pain relief of muscle and joint pain.

Trying something brand new will not only be different and exciting, but will also break up the monotonous schedules we adhere to when juggling work and family. Getting outside is also great for your health!

What will you be doing with your extra Leap Year day? Tell us in the comments!
