back-to-fitness-tips-for-literally-getting-on-your-feet-after-downtime-championgear Today we’re going to talk about getting back into a fitness routine after downtime. Maybe that downtime came during a particularly rough pregnancy. Perhaps you suffered an injury. Maybe you just lost your mojo and couldn’t quite get on your feet for a while. For me, it was a combination of all those things over the course of many years. Whatever your reason, there comes a time when you have to put your feet down…then stand up on them and get yourself moving!

I know what it’s like to face a rough time getting back to fitness after being out of shape for a while. I have back problems that make it difficult to do anything too strenuous. I let that be my excuse for a long time. Not anymore, though! I’m ready to get back to fitness, and I want YOU to come with me! After all, it’s easier to do something when you have a buddy!

Tips for Getting Back on Your Feet and Back to Fitness

Start NOW

One of my biggest downfalls when it comes to getting fit is planning. I “plan” to work out, I “plan” out different activities and ideas, download workout music, look for videos, make lists. Plan, plan, plan. Planning is great if you follow through! If you’re like me, though, who just LOVES making lists but doesn’t actually DO anything with them, it’s not so great for getting yourself into a fitness routine. Instead, just get up and go. Start today. Now. Do anything. Take a walk. Go for a swim. Just start.

Think Outside the Gym

Another big downfall for me is thinking that it only counts if I’m doing certain types of activities. Running, walking on a treadmill, swimming brisk laps. You know, the things that are on all those lists of exercises. So I think “I don’t have time to go to the gym” or “it’s too hot to go running” or “my back can’t handle jumping jacks.” If this is you, think of fitness in a new way. Playing tag with your kids, going on a nature walk or taking a bike ride for fun are all ways to get moving and get back into a fitness routine. You can work your way up to the harder stuff if you want!

Stay Comfortable in Your Own Skin

One of the most important parts of getting back to fitness is making sure you stay comfortable when you’re doing it. If you wear clothing that is too restrictive, heavy or otherwise just plain uncomfortable, you’ll be miserable. You’ll equate that miserable feeling with working out when really it’s all about the clothing. Sports Authority’s new Champion GEAR keeps you comfortable in style! back-to-fitness-tips-for-literally-getting-on-your-feet-after-downtime-championgear With Sports Authority’s new Champion GEAR, it’s “all gain, no pain.” Their advanced moisture-wicking fabrics help you keep your cool during even the sweatiest workouts. Their women’s Marathon v-neck short-sleeve running t-shirt, for example, is made with Vapor® technology, which not only wicks sweat and moisture off your skin, but also dries fast so you don’t look like you’ve been doused with water during your workout. It’s super soft and doesn’t chafe or irritate your skin. back-to-fitness-tips-for-literally-getting-on-your-feet-after-downtime-championgear

The  Champion GEAR® women’s woven running shorts are my favorite! They’re also designed with the Vapor® technology to really maximize ventilation and keep you cool. Even if you’re not planning to do any running, these are ideal shorts for getting back to fitness! They have a built-in brief, which means you don’t have to wear anything else under them. back-to-fitness-tips-for-literally-getting-on-your-feet-after-downtime-championgear

Aside from being comfortable, they’re really cute! Look at the fun colors and detail. Those pretty details serve a purpose (other than making the shorts stylish). They’re reflective, which keeps you safer if you’re working out in low-light conditions.

Champion GEAR comes in a variety of styles and colors for the whole family and is available exclusively at Sports Authority both online and in stores. It’s definitely “A New Kind of Champion,” offering a luxury feel and fit at totally affordable prices.

Make it a Fun Family Affair Getting fit with your kids is way more fun than getting fit alone! Kids are naturally energetic. They’re also naturally creative. Ask your kids to come up with some fun ideas to help everyone in the family exercise more. Maybe you could build obstacle courses in your back yard or create your own triathlon. When it becomes more about bonding than about working out, you’re more likely to stick to it.

Be Proud of Yourself Give yourself a pat on the back when you stick to your goals, even if it’s the first day. Too often we look ahead at the giant picture and think “I still have so far to go” rather than “I have come so far.”

Getting back to fitness after down time is challenging, but it’s so worth it. I’m up for the task if you are! Don’t forget to grab some comfy workout gear! Find  Champion GEAR exclusively at Sports Authority.

  1. There was a time when I spent a lot of time getting into shape. I would hit the gym then do a mile or two on the track at the Air force base I was on at the time. But now I just rely on all the miles I put in at work to cover it.

  2. I find it hard to get motivated to work out. I had to get my friend to start working out with me so we can motivate each other. These are great tips. I need to get some new workout clothes.

  3. Great post! 10 days ago I decided I have had enough of being overweight and feeling like crap. I have changed the way I eat and now getting ready to incorporate exercise.

  4. I just recently dusted off my running shoes and started back on a full-fledged routine! Having just re-started, I absolutely agree with your post! Especially about thinking outside the gym. I do me entire routine in my living room or by running around the neighborhood! :)

  5. I totally agree with what you said about being comfortable while you work out. It makes such a difference in your mindset. If you feel good, you’re more likely to push yourself that little bit extra.

  6. It is rough to start back to the gym or working out after a down period. But the most important thing is to start! Doesn’t matter how slow or small-just get out there and do it!

  7. We just started going to the gym again and I am really loving it. We also try to hike when we can. It is starting to cool off enough for hiking in the mountains again and I can’t wait to go!

I workout every single day. Both of my kids are very active, too. I would love to get some Champion gear for our workouts.
