Sneak peek at The Emoji Movie trailer

The Emoji Movie stars Gene, a multi-expressional emoji, who sets out on a mission to become a normal emoji. Basically, within the smartphone universe is a place called Textopolis, a bustling city where all the emojis reside. Each of the emojis in the city only have one facial expression, except for Gene, who has several facial expressions. Gene wants to be normal like the others, so he sets out on a journey with his pals Hi-Five and Jailbreak. The journey takes the trio through several smartphone apps in search of the code the will make Gene like the other emojis. Throughout their journey, the trio are threatened by a danger that is in search of destroying the phone. The trio must save the world of the emojis before it is deleted forever.

So far, the voice cast of The Emoji Movie is: TJ Miller as the voice of Gene, Ilana Glazer as the voice of Jailbreak, a codebreaker emoji, James Corden as the voice of Hi-Five, a hand emoji and Steven Wright as the voice of Mel Meh, Gene’s father.

The movie trailer is narrated by Meh, the emoji that is used to describe a lack of interest or lack of enthusiasm. This is what he says throughout the teaser movie trailer:

“Hello, as you can see I am an emoji. A Meh to be exact. Anywho, it is my pleasure to announce our first movie. Yeah (no enthusiasm at all). It’s almost too thrilling for words. So, bring the family. Doesn’t have to be your family. So, come out and see it this August. I am absolutely euphoric right now. I might have to go lie down.”

I have to say that the trailer gives me no idea as to what the movie is about. Had I not read the synopsis on Wikipedia, I would have no clue what the movie is about just by watching the trailer. I really expected something better than that from Sony Pictures Animation and Columbia Pictures.

  1. This movie looks adorable! And since both of my kids are avid emoji users this is one film I know they would love to see and one I would want to see as well!

Sounds like these emojis are REALLY becoming a part of modern culture. It’ll be interesting to see how well this does in the theaters.
