This movie is NOT a sequel to the live-action flicks that starred Neil Patrick Harris. It’s actually a reboot and totally CGI, rather than a mix of CGI and live actors. Why the reboot? Sadly, the 2nd Smurfs movie didn’t do too stellar in the box office. As cute as the other movies were (I do adore NPH), I think The Lost Village is more true to the original Smurfs story line.

Actor John Goodman was first considered for the role of Papa Smurf, before the role went to Mandy Patinkin. As you probably know, Patinkin played Inigo Montoya in the best family movie of all time, The Princess Bride. He’s played in dozens of other roles over the years, including Rube in another favorite of mine, Dead Like Me and, for a few seasons, as the head of the BAU in Criminal Minds.

There are several new Smurfs members that are introduced in Smurfs: The Lost Village. They are the residents of the Lost Village, including SmurfStorm, voiced by Michelle Rodriguez, SmurfBlossom, voiced by Ellie Kemper, SmurfLily, voiced by Ariel Winter, SmurfWillow, voiced by Julia Roberts and SmurfMelody, voiced by Meghan Trainor.

The original title of the movie was supposed to be Get Smurfy. Sony Pictures Animation Studios first released the title of the movie to be Get Smurfy on June 14, 2015. However, in the early part of 2017, the title was changed to its current title- Smurfs: The Lost Village.

Smurf: The Lost Village went through several theater release date changes before the current release date of April 7, 2017 was set. First, it was announced on October 5, 2013, that it would be released on August 14, 2015 but on May 1, 2014, that date was changed to August 5, 2016. Then, in March of 2015, the release date was moved once again to March 31, 2017. A year later, in March of 2016, the release date was changed again to its current date of April 7, 2017.

Demi Lovato is the 2nd singer to voice the role of Smurfette. Katy Perry voiced the role of Smurfette in the 2011 movie The Smurfs and the 2013 movie The Smurfs 2.

In Smurfs: The Lost Village, actor Joe Manganiello plays the voice role of Hefty Smurf. His wife, Sofia Vergara, played the live-action role of Odile Anjelou in the 2011 movie The Smurfs.

Are you excited for this movie? I know I am! I’ve been a huge Smurfs fan since I was a kid! Have you heard any other interesting Smurfs: The Lost Village trivia? Tell me about it in the comments!
