- Moana is the 56th feature film for Walt Disney Animation Studios. Their first movie was Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs, which was released on December 21, 1937.
- The directors on the movie are John Musker and Ron Clements. They have also directed 6 other movies together including the 1986 The Great Mouse Detective, the 1989 The Little Mermaid, the 1992 Aladdin, the 1997 Hercules, the 2002 Treasure Planet and the 2009 The Princess and the Frog.
- The main role of Moana is being voiced by Auli’I Cravalho. She is a 15-year-old girl who was born in Oahu, Hawaii. She was actually the last person to audition for the role of Moana. This is the first movie she has appeared in.

- In Italy, the movie title is Oceania and the main character is called Vaiana. The change was made by Disney Italy, due to the fact that in Italy the name Moana is usually associated with adult movie actress named Moana Pozzi.
- Moana is Disney’s very first Polynesian princess. To prepare for the film and better understand the culture, Disney sent a team to the South Pacific for two weeks to meet with tribe chiefs and other experts.
- The movie went through a whopping 700 drafts to get to the one we’ll see in theaters on November 23rd.
