Traveling Through Time with Back to the Future #BTTF2015

This is a sponsored post written by me on behalf of Universal. All opinions are 100% mine.

Back to the Future is one of the most iconic family movies of my generation, and this month marks its 30th anniversary. 30 years. Wow. I was 10 when the movie came out! It seems like just yesterday I was watching Marty McFly try to keep his future from vanishing right before his eyes by getting his parents back together! iconic-family-movies-time-travel-with-back-to-the-future

The 30th Anniversary re-release of Back to the Future hits stores on October 21st, the day Marty travels to in the second movie.  In honor of this momentous occasion, we’re talking all about time travel! I’m pretty sure there are hundreds of Docs hidden away in labs trying to figure out how to bend the space-time continuum to our will! It may not happen in a DeLorean, but I do believe that at some point, someone will figure it out! One of my cousins is a physicist, and another is in college for it. Maybe one of them will figure it out!

How to Travel Through Time without Breaking It

If I had the chance to travel through time, there are so many places I’d want to see! Of course, I’d have to be sure I could do it without creating a paradox or ripping holes in the fabric of the universe! I’m always afraid that if I went back and changed any part of my own life, I’d erase my son! I’d like to travel more as an observer, where I can’t interact. Kind of like a ghost!

Another idea: how about “scripted” time travel? Hop into a role that’s already been written, a life that’s already been lived, and only be able to do what they’ve already done. That way, you can still experience the past with your five senses without being able to alter it. That sounds a little too much like possession, doesn’t it? Creepy!

Well, I’ll leave the semantics up to the Doc Browns of the world. Then again, Doc didn’t think things through to well either did he, since Marty had to fix the future in three different movies!

My Time-Travel Destination Wish List

In honor of the 30th Anniversary re-release of the Back to the Future series, we're sharing 5 of our top time travel destinations! Check it out and learn more about the re-release of one of the most iconic family movies of all time. Since we’re talking time travel, I’ll tell you a few of my top “time period vacation destinations” on my wish list!

  • 1348 (Black Death years): I’ve always been fascinated with viruses. I was actually considering a career in epidemiology at one point. It sounds weird, but I’d love to go back to the height of one of the Plague years (with some sort of immunity!) and study it in person.
  • 3000 BC-ish: According to archeologists, this is when the construction of Stonehenge begun. Right now, we only have really good guesses as to why it’s there. I’d like to find out once and for all the real answer.

  • Anywhere in Ancient Greek Times: I think it would be so neat to see where modern civilization started taking shape. Rome, Greece and Egypt were like the foundation nations upon which our present was built, if you think about it. While all three would be neat to see, Greece has been calling my name since I was a child. There’s just something about it!

  • Late 1940s: Jumping WAY forward, I’d really like to go back to the late 1940s and see my grandmother as a teenager. She was quite adventurous and free-spirited. I’d hang around long enough to see her marry my grandfather in 1951.

  • 1985: Even though I was 10 that year and remember it well, I’d travel back to see my dog one last time. I had an amazing German shepherd, named Jake. You may notice that my son is also named Jake! Yep, I named my son after my dog. He was a really great dog! While there, I could catch the original release of Back to the Future in theaters again! Of course, I can always catch it now in present time, since it’s being re-released into theaters nationwide, along with fun live events from Universal and fans!

This list doesn’t even begin to scratch the surface of all the places and times throughout history that I’d love to check out! I love imagining all the different places I’d go.

Back to the Future 30th Anniversary Release

Don’t forget, on October 21st you can grab your 30th Anniversary re-release of the Back to the Future series on DVD, Blu-Ray and in digital format! I’m planning to get the Blu-Ray special edition! It comes with all three movies plus a bonus disc with cool features like all new original shorts, a 9-part retrospective documentary, episodes from Back to the Future: The Animated series, and SO much more!

  1. If you can believe it, I didn’t see the Back to the Future trilogy until about 10 years ago. I wasn’t born yet when the first one came out and somehow managed to get through childhood without seeing it. When my now-husband found this out about me, he promptly sat me down to watch all three movies in one sitting. Of course I loved them!

  2. Hello! I am an experienced writer and I am wondering if you would consider a guest post. It’s an article about “The Halloween Trick that Fooled Mom”
Just a fun piece about me and my 3 kids out trick or treating.

    Let me know!

My kids aren’t quite old enough for Back to the Future yet, but my husband and I are excited to share it with them! It was one of our favorite movies growing up!

  4. If I could travel through time I would want to be anywhere my dad was. I would also love to watch myself as a child.

  5. Robin (Masshole Mommy)

Back to the Future is one of my all time favorite movies. I remember seeing when it was originally in the theaters.
