National Lampoon’s Vegas Vacation– Any of the movies starring Chevy Chase could be on this list since they are all entertaining, fun and light hearted. This movie has a bit of mature humor but it is funny and warm as well. Chevy Chase plays the role of Clark Griswold who takes his family on a vacation to Las Vegas. Of course, as with most Chevy Chase movies, this is no ordinary vacation.

Finding Nemo– While this may be an animated movie, it is one that is touching and has a story behind it. It showcases the tale of a dad that will do anything needed to protect his son. It shows kids that parents do the things they do because it is what is best for them and it shows parents that sometimes they need to let go a little.

Pursuit of Happyness– This movie stars Will Smith and his real-life son Jaden and is based on a true story. Will plays the role of Chris Gardner, a salesman from San Francisco who works hard to build a future for himself and his son. In order to do this, he takes an unpaid internship for a stockbroker program that is highly competitive.

Kramer vs. Kramer– This highly acclaimed movie won 5 Academy Awards and stars Dustin Hoffman as Ted Kramer and Meryl Streep as Joanna Kramer. It tells the intense story of a couple who gets divorced and what impact it has for everyone involved.

Mrs. Doubtfire– If there has ever been a movie that has showcased how far a father will go to see his children, it is definitely this movie. Robin Williams plays the role of a dad who will do whatever it takes to see his kids after the court denies his visitation rights. So, what does he do? He puts on a dress and a wig and takes on the role of Mrs. Doubtfire, a housekeeper.

Of course, you’ll need snacks, right? While popcorn is the tradition, sometimes it’s fun to mix things up, literally. Try our Southwestern Snack Mix!

  1. I’ve only seen Kramer vs. Kramer and Mrs. Doubtfire. I will add the other two to our list of movies to watch.

  2. I love this list. That Mrs. Doubtfire was a really tough one for me, as it came out not too long after my parents divorced. Still one of my favorite movies though.

  3. I love Mrs. Doubtfire, definitely a great one! One that isn’t on the list but I’ve watched with my dad before is “Big Daddy”. So emotional when the main character is in court and encourages everyone to call their dad and tell them that they love them!

  4. Megan @ C'mon Get Crafty

I’ve seen all of these except Kramer vs Kramer; which I know is a classic and I SHOULD watch. My husband would probably want to watch Swordfish, lol.

  5. My dad LOVED Mrs. Doubtfire – he even dressed up like her for Halloween one year! But I think my favorite movie to watch with my dad was Star Wars. He loved the whole series.

  6. Rebecca Swenor

These are awesome movies to watch with your father on Father’s Day. I love the idea of putting a movie basket together for my dad as a Father’s Day gift. My dad likes movies about spaces and comedies. Thanks for sharing.

  7. I couldn’t agree more! Those are awesome movies! My favorite is Mrs. Doubtfire.. It’s so funny, it cracks me up! I actually need to re-watch the Pursuit of Happyness too. I saw it once, but don’t really remember it.

  8. Omg! What a great list of movies! Maybe that’s what my daughter will do with hubby, have a movie day this Father’s Day!

  9. Oh, you can’t watch movies with Dad and not include any westerns! Any movie time with my dad would have to include at least one John Wayne movie and one war movie of some description.

  10. Great movie suggestions! Our daughter is ALMOST old enough for Finding Nemo and she loves fish…..we may try watching it as a family on Sunday.

  11. I love the idea of watching a movie with Dad on Father’s Day. My boys love to watch Finding Nemo with their dad because they all love fish more than anything.

  12. Robin (Masshole Mommy)

Any National Lampoon’s movie would be a-ok with my husband. He loves all of them. What a great list.
