Vroom App Review: Find Teaching Moments in Your Everyday Routine

Did you know that during the first few years of life, your child’s brain is making more than 1 million neural connections every single second? If you think about how much our kids learn in the first few years of their life, it’s really quite amazing. They start out as blank slates, knowing only the most basic survival skills (how to eat, how to breathe, how to go through diapers like there’s no tomorrow). They literally have to learn everything that we take for granted, from how to roll over to spelling our own names.

Here’s another incredible thing to consider: YOU are responsible for nearly all that knowledge! All of those positive connections with you make it possible for your tiny tot to figure out how to walk, talk, sing, and dance. You’re already doing an incredible job, but what if you could do even more?

That’s where the new Vroom app comes into play (quite literally!). The app is a mobile version of the popular Vroom website, letting you take thousands of really neat brain building tips on the go with you. The best part? It’s free! Let’s see how it works and check out some of my favorite features.

How Does the Vroom App Work?

The Vroom app, which is available in both English and Spanish, is perfect for kids from birth to age 5. After you download the app, you can sign up for account, or try a Vroom Tip first. I suggest signing up so that you can take full advantage of all the features. Remember, it’s completely free!

Once you complete the signup, just check your app daily for a new Vroom tip for you and your child! The tips are chosen based on your child’s age. The short activities on each tip are based on science to help you teach your child valuable life skills. Now that you know how it works, let’s take a peek at some of my favorite features!

5 Amazing Features of the Vroom parenting app

1. Makes your everyday routine even more meaningful

While time spent together with your child is never wasted, Vroom helps take the most mundane daily routines and turn them into incredible learning experiences. Even something as simple as cleaning up toys becomes impactful and fun! By turning boring tasks (like laundry or grocery shopping) into a game, you’re also far less likely to deal with meltdowns.

2. Uses what you already have

One of my absolute favorite features of Vroom: you don’t have to buy a ton of stuff to use it. In fact, you don’t have to buy anything at all (not even the app). The tips and activities use things you already have on hand. In many cases, you and your child are all you’ll need.

For example, one tip suggests playing a back and forth game of “favorite foods” during your grocery shopping. As you head down the aisles, take turns pointing out your favorites from each section. This simple activity teaches your child that people have different likes and dislikes, helping them form better relationships in the future.

3. A variety of tips for every age and learning style

Vroom offers a daily tip based on your child’s age, but you can go so far beyond that! Within the app and on the website, you can easily explore tips based on different skills and activities. The “Discover” section helps you find the perfect tip for your daily routine. See something you’d like to try later? Just click the little heart to add it to your favorites!

4. Easily track the skills that your child is learning

Vroom makes it super easy to find out exactly what your child is learning from each tip, and track the skills that you’ve taught him. I love the concise way they explain the benefit of each skill. Direct and to the point, so you can scan through the tips quickly and decide what to do without getting bogged down by neuroscience jargon. You can quickly look and say, “Oh, it teaches cleaning and manners! We already worked on that this week, let’s try something else” or “Bingo! That’s exactly the skill I want him to learn today!”

5. Engaging design lets kids get involved in the fun

While Vroom is a parent-centric app, we all know our kids love to see what we’re doing on our phones. The new design and layout of the app is very kid-friendly, so your child can track their progress right along with you. The fun celebration animations let them know that they’ve done a great job!

All the Vroom app tips are science-based. Yep, even the simplest of tips, like playing “which food is your favorite.” It’s amazing, isn’t it? How something so tiny can make such an impact on your child’s learning. I love the app because it really helps you make the most out of every moment together. It also helps make all those things that kids really don’t like to do a little more fun. Everything from car rides to folding laundry becomes a bonding and learning experience.

Remember, the Vroom app is completely free to download and use. While I highly recommend creating an account to personalize it for your child and track your tips, you can even use it without logging in.

Vroom is incredibly accessible. Download the app on your Apple or Android device to take it on the go with you. Don’t have a smartphone? No problem! Use the browser-based app to access Vroom from any connected device or sign up for weekly tips delivered by text.

Get Vroom Tips from Alexa!

You can even use Alexa to get daily tips by enabling the Vroom skill. The Alexa skill is designed to work best with Amazon Echo Spot and Echo Show. If you have one of these devices, you can use the skill to check out videos and other visuals related to the tip of the day. Even if you don’t have one of these devices, the new Alexa skill works with any Alexa-enabled device. Use it to ask Alexa to send the tip of the day or other fun tips right to your Vroom app!
