The 5 Moms You Will Meet at the Pool

It is that time of year again where the weather is warming up and you might be heading to the pool with the kids, and I am here to tell you the 5 moms you will meet at the pool! You might have seen a few of them before. You might find one over in the sunny spot, taking advantage of the rays and warm weather, or you might see another enjoying the shade sun hat on and a phone glued to her hand (this is most likely me, but in the sun). Look to her left you might see a couple of moms set up in the prime spot of the pool and you find yourself wondering how they get that same spot every time, no matter what time you try to come and claim it. Do you see these 5 moms at the pool?

The 5 Moms You Will Meet at the Pool

The Regulars: You will know these moms right away.  They get there early, and set up in the prime spot.  You might feel like you just walked onto their pool deck, but don’t worry, they are very friendly.  Need an extra towel  They got you covered!  They come totally prepared with their matching coolers full of kid’s healthy snacks and juice boxes and giant beach towels.  But they are prepared to share and probably have anything you need.

The Connected Mom: This is totally me.  Sure I am watching my kids, I even get in the pool and play some games.  Being connected doesn’t mean I am just texting my friends or scrolling Facebook.  I am fortunate enough to work from home (or the pool) so usually when you find me on my phone, it is because I am working, or going over my to do list, so I can prioritize my time and enjoy the day with my kids.  So if you see this mom at the pool, please try to refrain from judging her, she is more than likely using her phone to work.

The Put Together Mom: Her hair is done, her face is on and she looked like she spent all winter with a personal trainer.  Good for her!  All of that is not an easy task, especially with the kids she has in tow!  This mom knows that taking care of yourself is just as important as taking care of your kids.  Become her friend, I am sure she would be more than happy to chat with you.  I have always found fit and healthy people to be the happiest to share what they know.  You might have just found yourself a new walking or workout buddy!  Not to mention some new playmates for the kids.

The 2 Small Children Mom: You can’t miss this mom!  She has probably run past you once or twice already chasing her toddler and trying to keep her from jumping into the deep end, all the while trying to keep one eye on her semi sleeping infant in the shade.  I feel for this mom.  Offer to keep an eye on her sleeping tot so she can enjoy her toddler in the pool for a bit (and cool off, all that running around is making me hot!)  Raising kids takes a village, help a mom out.

The Fun Mom: I strive every summer to be more like this mom.  You will find this mom in the water with her kids and initiating piggy back rides around the pool, and games of Marco Polo.  I like her, she is engaging all of the kids to play together and having a good, safe time in the pool.  If I am watching from the sidelines, I am thankful she is helping to tire out my child before taking her home!  Maybe next time I can give her a break and be The Fun Mom.

The pool is the hot spot to be in the summer (no pun intended).  It is also a good place to people watch (how else do you think I gathered all of this very important information for you?)  Are you one of these moms?  Are you the one in the pool playing all the fun games where all the other kids of the other moms want to join in?  Or are you the regular, claiming your spot early in the day and totally prepared for everything and anything?  Share with us your pool experiences below in the comments.

  1. I don’t really know if I can consider myself fun but every time we go swimming I make sure that I swim and play with the kids, after all we are there to enjoy and build memories together. This is a really entertaining post, it’s true to the core. Lol.

  2. Oh I’m definitely the connected mom, but strive to be the fun mom. I think I fail at it though. Bathing suits and me don’t get along. ;)
